Cheese?!?
Don't even want to think about a household that considers cheese a leftover! (Not ours!!!) Cheese drawer in our freezer definitely yields ingredients...
For us a leftover is usually unplanned cooked food that is not eaten & needs to be eaten to avoid waste. Like many of you we plan our portions to avoid waste & overeating.
Now as to out-of-date (and no food - we've plenty of it, most of it inherited from folks who have moved out of the country & don't want to waste what they are not able to take with them! - Bottles of mustard, dried goods, herbal tea bags, spices & JELLY!!!! (amongst other things) - now we would not normally purchase many of these things but as we have them they get put to use a bit at a time.

So glad it's not just me then on the leftovers. I tend to either batch cook a meal, or elements of it, and then freeze for later dates so don't have much in the way of leftovers. Also we have pets so tiny amounts of suitable food find their way to them instead of languishing in the fridge.
As for the aged Jelly Crystals, until last year I could cite the tin of Rice Pudding that OH took to University in 1984 and accompanied him home and back every half term/term end as his mum mistakenly believed he would eventually eat it. For three years that tin travelled the width of the country at least 8 times until he went down South where it eventually found its way into our house. lt had been tucked away in a box of his old books, which shows how useful they had been to keep. Last year I discovered it and having asked the tale, carefully, gingerly, threw it away.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Good Morning :hello:
Hope you are safe and well, whatever the weather is doing in your neck of the woods.
Baby Greying and i will try to get out and about today, but only if it is safe to do so. Currently it looks OK.
Tea this evening is scheduled to be 'buddha bowl' as I've some tofu from the mrW offer that needs using in the next week or so (so i'm giving myself options). But if the bad weather comes in then I'll need a flexible tea in case DH is delayed. Pressed tofu isn't the most flexible, quick dish to prepare.
Not alot 'moneysaving' going on to report. I'm doing the 'mundane', 'ticking over' stuff, which I know, you know is essential. But are not thrilling to read about necessarily. Using up leftovers and storecupboard/freezer contents is money-saving 'Gold', but at the end of the day, we've all different things in our cupboards and cold storage.........
I was thinking of rtandon yesterday, when I picked up some YS'd lemongrass. It was only 30% reduction - but I have to take what I can get. And if it means I can continue with thai style curries, then..... Need to get some fresh coriander, ideally on special, to top up freezer stores.
joeyjimbles - did you throw the rice pudding away gingerly out of respect, or were you afraid it would explode? :rotfl:
Right, best shift-a-tail- feather. Get some chores done

Forgot to say earlier, looks like there might be 'something' in the mrL pickotheweek, this week for the Greying Household. They have 1.5kg oranges for 59p, and maybe......... I will have a look at the butternut squash for 59p PER KILO - will depend on size etc, careful weighing will ensue. Also, they have some 'weekend only' deals (Ground coffee, granola and coconut water) and a 'XXL' week starting today on a range of products. Might be useful for someone.

I may pop by Lil's for the Oranges. May also look at the Butternut Squashes, but as you rightly say Greying they will need careful examination - is it Al's that usually sell them for 69p in any event? I'll be shopping on Saturday morning this week anyway so it may be that I decide I don't have enough time to go across to the other side of town. If MrEH wants to check the charity shop for trousers however it may be worth the trip.
Joey your rice pudding story reduced me to giggles. For "them as have been about here a while" - it reminded me of Hypno's tinner sprouts! I think you should have kept it as a family heirloom! :rotfl:
Also glad it's not just us that "inherits" random food stuffs from other people - our friend upstairs is a terror for buying things then not using them, and periodically we find a bagful on the doorstep...
And Greying I know EXACTLY what you mean about the mundane MSE stuff not feeling terribly newsworthy. But, y'know we like hearing all about your days anyway, don't you!
