Yes EH, I think mrAl do usually have butternut squash for a reasonable 'single' price (not per kilo). So I shall be careful, and not just 'assume' it is a bargain
Baby Greying and I got out and about for a breath of fresh air and to pick up something I forgot yesterday
The weather is REALLY bad with us, clearly, as it is spitting with rain :rotfl: :pIt was cold too when I went out. Warmer as I walked back though
The high street was pretty quiet. Even the m&$ clothing sale hadn't descended to the jumble sale it normally is.
Leftover cocido from the other day for lunch, as there wasn't enough to bother taking up freezer space, to keep it longer.
Right, away to grab lunch and try to plan the afternoon (tentatively)
See y'all in a bit

Still awaiting the snow and winds up here - though I do feel it is a bit colder maybe.
And yes, I threw the rice pudding away gingerly, in layers of packaging as I did fear it would explode and who knew what damage 30 year old rice pudding and tin could do. I did note that it had no Best Before date on it so perhaps it wasn't very MSE to chuck it?LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Maybe you should have keep it
"The steamboat Bertrand was heavily laden with provisions when it set out on the Missouri River in 1865, destined for the gold mining camps in Fort Benton, Mont. The boat snagged and swamped under the weight, sinking to the bottom of the river. It was found a century later, under 30 feet of silt a little north of Omaha, Neb.
Among the canned food items retrieved from the Bertrand in 1968 were brandied peaches, oysters, plum tomatoes, honey, and mixed vegetables. In 1974, chemists at the National Food Processors Association (FPA) analyzed the products for bacterial contamination and nutrient value. Although the food had lost its fresh smell and appearance, the NFPA chemists detected no microbial growth and determined that the foods were as safe to eat as they had been when canned more than 100 years earlier."

Good Evening :hello:
So Bear - any idea if any of those there scientists tucked into a plate of brandied peaches with oyster garnish????? :rotfl: I think it was at the phrase, 'Although the food had lost its fresh smell and appearance' that I started to _pale_
DH stopped by mrL on the way home and got some of the oranges (we hadn't even discussed it, and he rang me to say, 'they've got oranges') He also grabbed some of the XXL wipes, which appear to be like the ones that we were buying. The oranges are produce of Spain and are Navelina - exactly the same as mrAl stocked before chrimbo. They were lovely, and I'm hopeful that these will be the same
Baby Greying had a 25 minute nap this afternoon :j at tea prep time, so I was most grateful
I went with the buddha bowl in the end, as currently we are OK weatherwise here. I marinated pressed tofu in some orange juice, cinnamon, bay, pinch of cloves, paprika, salt and pepper. Then I coated the pieces in cornmeal with 'Italian' type seasonings - oregano, basil, paprika flakes, orange zest etc. I chopped up red onions, garlic, the last of the celery, 2 peppers - one red (mrW bargain 10p) one yellow (mrL last week's PoTW), cooked them in oil and balsamic. Added in some chopped black olives and allowed to cool, adding herbs, lemon juice, salt and pepper and more olive oil. I defrosted some spinach, then blended it with paprika flakes, nutmeg, some pomegranate molasses (run out of lemon), salt and pepper. Cooked up some brown basmati rice, fried off the tofu pieces, shoved in a bowl, scattered with sunflower seeds and ate
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that I managed to get out and about - that was not possible, or very difficult for others elsewhere in the UK
I've a coffee date to look forward to
For DH's thoughtfulness :smileyhea
Thanks for popping in, reading and comparing OOD grocery items - very illuminating, if not a little :rotfl:

Mmm, Greying your tea looks ace! :j :j
Am I too late to add my out of date tins story?? :rotfl: At new year, my friend opened a tin of beans and it exploded! Fortunately not beans everywhere, but a very loud and shocking bang! It was only a year out of date :rotfl: An elderly relative lives quite rurally and has quite a storecupboard.... :eek:0 -
Good Afternoon :hello:
i hope you are well, safe and warmAs are we
We popped up the high street to get some exercise as much as anything - as it was safe to do so.
I popped into a couple of chazzas. Got some reasonably priced clothes for Baby Greying - I happen to think 50p is enough for ordinary generic children's clothing in the smaller sizes. tops, vest etc. And I also got lucky and picked up a lightly worn (if at all) hoodie that was originally m&$ for £1.50. It is too big at present, but worth keeping, as it has a timeless design on it. I also picked up some more blocks, plastic this time, but they link together, £1.50 for the (original) bag full didn't seem too bad.
I've some pizza dough to make for tea. It'll probably just be cheese & tommy. I need to get the topping sauce out of the freezer too. The wedges will be from the HG 'wilja' potatoes that the gardening parental gifted wwaaaayyy before Christmas. I think they are OK. They are starting to sprout a little but I'm more hopeful that they haven't gone green (still got 'mud' on 'em), as the shoots can be brushed off, but green tatties are useless. They've been in a dark shed though, so fingers crossed.
Right, I've washing up to do, a quick wash of the chazza stuff and some other bits and pieces and then it'll be tea time afore we know it
Thanks for popping in and reading. Although I think it now explains why the royal wail are so hot on what is inside parcels - obvs there has been more than one case of generous MSE'rs sending OOD food tins to each other, 'because i know you'll make use of it' :rotfl::rotfl::T:T...... The royal wail clearly haven't enough armour-plated delivery trucks to carry such booty :rotfl::D
