    By Jingle! I think I have it! :rudolf:

    Greek Chorus: Well, don't give it to us Greying!

    It took telling a (white) lie to a pensioner :eek: for it to click :o I bumped into D from around the corner and across the way, and of course, she said something that I have been hearing alot lately; "ooooh, I expect Baby Greying is looking forward to Christmas and I expect you're excited too...."

    I of course replied, "oh yes" (a lie), and then we carried on nattering about the weather.

    Well the thing is, BG is far too wee to know what is going on. The 25th will just be another day to; squeak, squelch and smile (not necessarily in that order) and laugh at those 2 people who seem to be around alot.......... DH and I aren't big kids who get excited about a mound of wrapping paper and paper chains. For anyone who is - Bravo! It's just not our cup of tea.

    And then it dawned on me why I've not been feeling *christmassy*. I'm not interested in the many, varied definitions of *christmas*, what I am looking forward to, is the things that we have planned for our version of *christmas*. This involves; a family get together and a simple carol service at a country church, walking, time with DH and DH having time with us, maybe seeing friends if they can find time, some nice food - that hopefully can be prepared in advance and won't keep me chained to the kitchen (much as I like cooking), watching The Lady in the Van on Christmas Eve, picnic lunches (weather permitting), putting up the christmas bunting and a few other decs on Christmas Eve as we usually do and taking them down again as soon as life returns to normal scheduling, making time to take stock of what a fantastic year 2016 has been for us; thinking about the wonderful people we've met and who have supported us, making a decision about what to do with people who add nothing to our lives and have actively hindered us and cramming as much HM spiced hot chocolate in at every opportunity and as daily calorific values will allow. You know, stuff like that :D

    And because I've done most of it already, barring any*stuff* that'll need rehoming to the chazza shop in the NY, I've derived much pleasure from squirreling a few bits over to the FB as our bit of charitable giving. I'm sure we could do more, but we do what we can, when we can, and hope that that is sufficient on the day.

    Merry blooming Christmas to one and all :xmassmile

    Yes, I'm with you. For me, these days, Christmas is about the "time" - you know, having some. And more to the point, having some time with MrEH. It's one reason why I proposed our trip away this year - it will be SO nice to have a week of just us, walking, talking, or just doing nothing. Our presents to each other this year, due in part to the need for portability, have turned into "experiences" rather than "things" - and as always, those "things" that do get included will be needed, and requested.

    While interacting with the world is lovely, every so often you need to shut off from it for a while, I think. This year we're opting out. :D

    Greying - loving your definition of Christmas, sounds like mine too :D we do have our tree up but only as smallest DD birthday tomorrow so I like to separate the two ;) there is so much commercialism about this time of year and 'forced fun' rather than people enjoying time doing the lovely things you say. We'll definitely be having lots of picnics and walks over the festive period (and hot chocolate ;)) enjoy. PF.

    Agree that Christmas has come way too comercialised over the years.
    I have cut way way down & feel so liberated :grin:

    A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    2 Questions;

    1) Do you think we've left it a little late to organise a charabanc to take us all up the the outer hebrides?

    2) Do you think EH will slap our legs very hard, when she finds out we've brought the 'all' to her 'getting away from it all', Island hideaway......?
