    I did not know that Rosieben had died. She used to look after the Grocery Challenge recipe index when I first joined that challenge, maybe 7 years ago :(:(.

    Yes it was weezl74 et al. I was (very peripherally) involved - still make carrot cake with garam masala as a result! :p

    :j:j:T:T:j:j

    Afternoon All! :hello:

    Been getting frustrated this morning - looking at 'budget' recipes, and thinking that would be 'cheap' if you dropped on.....XYZ yellow-stickered....... hence 90% ruling out making it in the next month... *sigh*. That's the issue with 'recipes' isn't it? Far easier to make something from a load of stuff you already have, or to concoct something out of a YS haul..... I do realise you can substitue like mad - that's my normal MO. But if you're in any way trying to 'plan'........

    Ho hum.

    Anyway, I have made up a batch of 'generic' curry powder this morning. It means as long as I have some passata/a tin of chopped tommies, I can now curry anything :D YS'd veggies, tinned beans, gifted HG veg or 'free please take some' offerings :D I'm not sure what the source was for the spice mix recipe (most likely the world wide wondar-web :D), but basically it is coriander, cumin, fennel and fenugreek seed with chilli flakes (light touch) and turmeric. The first four ingredients (all seed), toasted and then ground up in a mortar with the remaining ingredients. Fenugreek wasn't in the original recipe - but I added it in, as to me, fenugreek is THE curry spice :D

    DH picked up some shopping whilst out and about - we now have green speckled lentils (produce of Canada :T) again - unfortunately for more pennies than HB charge for them :mad: But at least mrT is 20p cheaper per bag than our local mrW :mad: I did notice that our local HB had red split lentils in stock again (they had disappeared at the start of the week), so I am HOPEFUL that HB will be restocking the green lentil shelf asap....... and at 79p per packet or less (preferably)............... jus' sayin'..........:D

    I had a look at the mrL receipt this morning, and whilst I do find their price yo-yo-ness makes things difficult to budget, I DID appreciate that some of the things that we routinely buy have come down in price - by as much as 10p - which is VERY welcome and appreciated :T

    MSE Badger has awarded me my 9yr badge :j That is the time I've been a registered user on the site. I actually started coming onto mse in 2007........ People have come & gone - some have come back ;) We've lost some wonderfully supportive, caring, kind people; Rosieben, Squeaky, Kissjen immediately spring to mind (and there are more, many more) ........ Thank goodness we have this place though, eh?

    Right, I'm away to study more budget recipe ideas - promise not to get meself all of a tizzy ;):D We got this :D

    Ta for popping by.

    Good Evening :hello:

    rtandon - just because we've had a 3 day summer heat-wave, I see absolutely no need to ditch my shetland wool long-sleeve long-johns, and my alpaca knit balaclava, I don't want a chill on nuffink....................... ;):rotfl:

    Well, I didn't get stressed as I didn't bother looking for more recipes! :rotfl: I've got some ideas formulating, and the 'ready meals' will be the key to success - I feel it in me water......... :D

    Tea was very much a trawl of the bottom of t'freezer. Oh how I wish I'd had a green veg of some sort to hand :( In the end we had the last of the HM Vegan Breakfast Sausages done as a 'Toad in the hole' - or 'frog in a bog' as dearest Pippi calls the dish :D. Accompanied by minted tinned tatties (an oxymoron if ever there was! :D Whatever will those Monied Jersey Royals think........ :rotfl:), and baked beans. Filled a tum, used stuff up and made space in the freezer. Not glamorous, not haut-cuisine, but there y'go :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    A right-size item of clothing for BG being on sale and still being on the shelf :j

    Choice - I can still exercise some, and it is appreciated very much by me

    HM chocolate, cherry buns :D

    Ta for popping in. Appreciated.

    :( on your behalf! They are still too expensive to be disappointing - irrespective of where they are grown :( But you're right - Scottish strawberries are usually :D

    Yes, they are expensive.
    These were a gift but that makes it seem worse.

    Good evening :hello:

    Went the day well?

    Didn't do too bad ourselves :D

    Achieved some things. Bought some things with forward (August) planning in mind and have generally had a nice time chatting with BG about any and every topic under the sun! :D

    Tea was a mash up coz we ain't got alot left in the cupboards. So I did a 'sort of' mungbean and chickpea curry with lemongrass, coriander, coconut milk, onion/garlic/ginger, curry powder - and regretfully too much turmeric :( Tomorrow I shall wake up either neon-yellow, or invincible. Watch this space :rotfl:Served with boiled basmati. Wasn't too bad once I'd dumped loads of coriander and lemon juice into it, but not one of my better creations. Still, filled a tum, used up stores and got us through another day :D

    Today i am grateful for these 3 things;

    people's kindness to BG

    crafting progress - after putting something down months ago, I've picked it up again :D The break has given my mojo/confidence in my ability a boost ;)

    Getting the laundry done :j

    Ta for popping in. Appreciated.
