Ha ha - it IS though, isn't it? No precursor to it - not even been reading about restaurants, not been watching progs about food.......
Currently frustrated. DH has gone out to get 'things' - which is exactly why I asked him to plan out the work, so everything could have been got beforehand, and you're not wasting daylight hours....... It's too wet and cold for BG and me to go anywhere outside to keep out of the way once the work does actually start, and because we've no room, things that need to be out of the way have been put in any of the other spaces BG and I could use, so I'm spending my time making sure BG doesn't break things. It's going to be a loooonnnnngggggg day
Ho hum. Still; got two arms and two legs, and have already seen a woodpecker this morning (don't often spot them), so not all bad

Well, I had the weirdest dream overnight. It was one of those really detailed ones - which I was actually in for a change, not just 'viewing'. Me and DH - younger versions, not the current wrinkly, tired versions - were invited to Sat Bains 'house' - invited to stay and watch him 'create'. The thing is, whilst I know who Sat Bains is (famous chef), I've not been watching anything, or even reading anything about him, his cooking or his restaurants lately, so why [/QUOTE]
Lol! My daughter woke up at midnight inconsolable due to a bad dream. This morning she revealed that the dream had involved Santa eating children! Terrifying ha0 -
Oh my GP - what sort of herbs did you put on your dinner last night?
Chili? Nutmeg? Poppy Seeds?
Or perhaps some kind of magic mushroom?
That was quite the vivid dream!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! When we were on holiday in August there was one night where we ALL had weird dreams. So it must have been something in the food, but we couldn't work out what!0

GP - this recipe made me giggle - what do you think little BG might make of it? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oh my goodness, I think I got off lightly - I was just a bit hungry when I woke up........ :rotfl:When we were on holiday in August there was one night where we ALL had weird dreams. So it must have been something in the food, but we couldn't work out what!
I suppose there could have been a spice that worked it's 'magic' - it certainly wasn't alcohol, as I didn't have any.GP - this recipe made me giggle - what do you think little BG might make of it? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I rather suspect that BG would studiously pick off EVERY single remnant of tattie wedge before deigning to even suspiciously declare that they 'no likey'......... :rotfl: Just the snack to load up on before a marathon run tho......... :rotfl:
I was reading about a lass this morning on the BBC site who is getting help from charity to fund the first Christmas with her daughter. I think the child is something like 3 months old. The lass feels 'less than' because she is getting the daughter presents that have been pre-loved off social media selling sites. When, oh when did we give parents the idea that not buying 'new' is not enough for our children? It saddens me that people get themselves tied up in knots or deep in debt, just to keep up with some myth perpetuated by, frankly, goodness knows who. BG is getting a mix of home-made, new and pre-loved gifts this Christmas. The two new items are that because we couldn't actually find what we needed from the preloved sources we have access to (mostly chazzers, rather than selling sites). In comparison to some children, BG will be 'lucky' - but I'm equally sure that if I posted a picture of the presents under the tree on some media sites, we would be berated for stinting our child.................
We are finding a great deal of joy and satisfaction in just being 'together' and doing things 'together' - eating cheap chocolate and singing Christmas ditties seems to be the current faveWe will be walking (in the dark) to see the lights up in Greying Town, suitably 'oohing and ahhing' at the twinklies, shapes and designs. And BG is already talking about seeing relatives, even though they don't quite understand timescales and dates - they know that trips are upcoming
And if last year is anything to go by, 'tea by the tree' will be the highlight (almost
) of Christmas for BG they were sooooooooo excited to do it last year!
BG is lucky that they will also receive some gifts from wider family and friends - although our friends know that they are not expected to gift. But some of them choose to make a gift - and that kindness invariably makes me well up! But BG will also know that Christmas is a time of giving as well as receiving, and I hope in years to come, BG will get as much pleasure out of eg donating to foodbanks (unless, of course their need has been eradicated????), or to toy drives, homeless charities - or whatever cause needs the type of help we are able to give. And I for one, remain grateful that charities - of all types - make resources available, at all times of the year, although especially at Christmas. We can all give what we can, when we can and however we can. I (personally) try to make sure I read the fine print - make sure I'm donating food off the 'urgently wanted' list, or choosing a toy that is in good order and not broken, or won't harm/is suitable for the child it is gifted to.
It makes us happy to give - in whatever (small) way that we can. It would break my heart to think that people aren't benefitting from what we have given. It was freely handed over, please enjoy.
In other news......................
Tea last night was scampi bites, oven chips and mushy peas. OK, but it lacked a bit of flavour. I like variety, so I think I've probably got into a rut with this particular standby. Perhaps I just need to come up with another 'cheat tea', and have it on stand-by.
I managed to crack on with one of BG's gifts lastnight. Not of course, the slightly more 'complex' one, that I seem to be having a mental barrier over :rotfl:But at least I've something almost finished, so I'm giving myself a slight pat on the back - especially as it is made from craft materials that I already had, so it qualifies as a 'stash buster' gift. I hope BG likes it, as I have tried my hardest to adapt a standard pattern to make it into something that is one of BG's favourite charactersTime will tell.......... :rotfl: But by my own admission, it is a bit wonky and artisanal................. (I'm educating BG in those facets early :rotfl:)
DH cracked on with DIY and actually achieved one of the tasks set - no mean feat, although it was very tough to keep a toddler entertained and in one small place - sorry, but it was
I haven't thought what is for tea tonight. Need to get shifting a tail-feather as daylight is emerging and I've a stack of things to do. Including getting my head around this gift make!
Right, best vamoose. Ta for popping in.

I think you have the right idea Greying with regards BG and Christmas. Although I can see how it's easy to get swept up in it all as a parent and I think social media presents this unrealistic image of everyone having a magical time. I spend more now than I did when little one was a baby but it is still a lot of second hand stuff with a few new things chucked in and nowhere near the amount most people spend . We like seeing the Xmas lights, going to local child friendly Xmas markets and Carol services. We spend the day at my parents so it will be a roast for us and a few games0

Aww - love it. I just love all the..... it seems unfair to say 'mis-pronounciations' as our little ones are learning - but the 'new ways' they name thingsL1za TaRbuck regularly does a slot on her show where people write in to say the names children/people have given things over the years and how for those families, the word has stuck, and now they eg always call woodpeckers - Pecky Woodcutters, 50 years later... I think Pecky Woodcutters is better than the orignial - tells you what they do, but in a much more friendly manner
We've just wandered home the long way and taken in the Christmas lightsSuch a simple (free) thing to do, and yet it was glorious! OK, so the weather was OK - wouldn't have been any good in a down-pour. And just about cold enough to strike the balance between knowing we're fast approaching winter, and yet your fingers and toes don't drop off within 5 seconds of being outside.
The lights were all twinkly - nothing (individually) to write home about, but each street was lit up, and when you add in the lights retailers had put up, or the effect of window displays - it really was something to see. Not as glamourous and spiffy as the Londinium retail streets, but a nice way to spent the first bit of darkness of the afternoon. BG pointed out Santas and snowmen (and possibly snow ladies - I'm not sure how you tell the difference??) and sleighs and reindeers, and it was all a bit of jolly, innocent and frugal funAnd we can put the light up on our advent calendar now
Tea will be pizza pasta buffet as time today has evaporated, and I hadn't time to prep owt. Sends self to naughty step......
I have, however, finished one of the items for BG and made a start on gathering together all the crafting nicknacks for the big crafting 'frog' that I seem to have built for myself. I thought I was being a bit wet with all my procrastinating, but then I read a quote attributed to Henri Matisse - 'Creativity requires Courage'. So maybe I'm not alone
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
DH working hard
crafting progress
simple pleasures.
Ta for popping in. Appreciated. Greatly.
