Just catching up. I too have a child who doesn't like cake!!! I have another who doesn't like jelly!!! I mean, how is that even possible???
Greying I think it's great you are introducing BG to lots of different foods. We did that with ours and now they will try anything. Well DD will, DS is going through a picky stage but we know he'll come out of that. They both know that if they try something and don't like it, then that's fine, we don't mind. We have never had "kid" meals and "adult" meals at our table. They have always eaten the same as us with maybe a small adaptation (less spice etc). Keep at it. You'll be standing BG in a good stead for when they are older and can cook all the "poncy" stufffor their housemates/partner.

Oh goodness, I feel like a TOTAL fraud.
BG has separate meals to usThey rarely try what we are eating
Invariably if they do, it is met with 'no likey' - but usually they won't even try
They do eat dhal, but won't eat rice (not even mixed in with the dhal) and won't try curry
The only upside, is that they don't eat/get given the 'kiddi' foods the 'yoghurt for children', the 'pasta shapes in tomato sauce for children', the 'cheese that has somehow been processed to form string to appeal to children'.......
And they won't touch jelly........Nor ice-cream....
But the leave it on the side and let them help themselves approach does work when they are throwing a hissy, and claiming that they don't want their tea, or lunch or brekky. Invariably, if it is left within reach, it gets stretched for......... Even if there were wails and screaming 2 seconds before........
In other news........
I trundled up to mrM. I now see why noone walks anywhere, as we nearly got taken out by a taxi on a pedXing. And witnessed a car race through a red light, and almost hit someone crossing the road - we'll gloss over the fact that a police vehicle was in traffic actually right on the spot, with a clear view.......
I went to top up my wonky avocado stash. MrM had south african Hass avocados today - most packs were 4 for £1.56, although I did see a few with 6 small ones in. I'd made my selection, and then passed the 'actual' avocado stand, and noticed that they had some avocados on special offer, '3 for £1'. The box said they were hass, produce of Peru. They were similar in size to the avocados I'd selected (I went for the 4 for £1.56), so i bought the 3 for £1 instead. I think the avocados will be similar in quality and I didn't have any unnecessary packaging, as these were just in a big box.
I also bought some saurkraut. Never tried it before, but realise that it is supposed to be a good probiotic. And yes, I know you can make it, but fermentation and 'the wrong type of moulds' scare me witless, so I prefer to purchase - at the moment. I purchased a jar from the european foods section, and it was 900g (I think) for £1.11. I've just tried a bit and quite like it - it's not as 'sour' as I thought it would be. I think it'll be a nice addition to a plate.
I also got some 'wonky' satsumas. They were small, rather than wonky, and were 85p for a 600g net. I also picked up a pack of wonky British asparagus for £1 - despite saying I wasn't going to bother with anymore.
As mrM had some of their pasta shapes on offer - 2 for £1 (= 1kg of pasta), I picked up a couple of bags, rather than running out/having to schlep up to mrT to get a kilo bag from there.
Right, BG is getting fractious, so I best shuffle orf and do something away from the computer.
Ta for popping by.

Aw Hun, I'm not upset - not with you :kisses3: Do I wish BG ate a wider range of foodstuffs? Yes, I do. But only because it worries me that they are not getting all the right vitamins and minerals and 'good stuff' each dayCompared to some of their peers, they eat a 'restricted' diet. Compared to some of their peers they eat an 'expansive' diet - you know that kiddies are all different.
One of their friends will eat most veggies, but no fruit, BG will eat most fruit, but hardly any veggies (unless heavily disguised - shhhhh! don't tell :shhh:)
Anyway, we had a 'minor' win today - BG ate a few pieces of pear, of their own volition :j Shame it's another fruit, but it was something different - YAY!
Right, best go and get tea on.

One of my cousin's children would only eat something if you told her it was a sausage. Carrots, sprouts, broccoli, etc, etc etc. So long as she thought it was a sausage she ate it. Grown up with children herself now and they all eat anything.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0

Good Evening :hello:
Toni'sfriend - I'm hopeful it will all turn out well in the end and BG will eat a 'range' of foodstuffs, irrespective of whether they choose to eat meat, be vegan, only eat organiks or whatever. They will certainly be taught to cook, to shop wisely and maybe to garden. They don't have to be passionate about food, but I want them to be able to feed themselves - and maybe others, and stand on their own two feetBut at the moment, I worry a little about vitamins, about minerals, about amino acids, about antioxidants........... :rotfl:;)
We did have another minor development at tea. As whilst BG doesn't like many foods, they do like olives and I had given them some of the marinated ones that we had for our tea. They don't normally like these, but did eat the ones on their plate. They then asked papa for one off his plate, which unfortunately was marinated and possibly had various other flavourings on it, so whilst they put it in their mouth, it pretty quickly came back out again. But then, came the real surprise, as they pointed to a piece of tomato on papa's plate and requested that....... BG doesn't like tomato..... However, a piece was handed over (unfortunately there was dressing on it), and it did at least make it to BG's mouth. OK, it was rejected, ultimately, but it was a development, none-the-less
And who knows, perhaps there is something in BG seeing mumma & papa eating 'strange' things that will make them more curious to try them for themselves. Perhaps having seen us eating these things, the next step will be to put the items on a plate within reach and see how it goes. Not being disappointed if they are rejected.
Tea wasn't particulalry successful. I like roasted cauliflower, but I don't think I like buffalo-wing style roasted cauliflowerI also roasted off some sweet potatoes, made a 2 tomato salad, chopped some cucumber, sliced a boiled egg, shoved some marinated olives and some saurkraut on the plate and made a citrus miso drizzle. It didn't gel. We may have heart-burn later :rotfl:And I won't be repeating that particular salad bowl in a hurry...... or perhaps I will
:rotfl:

BG's probably not old enough yet but my daughter-in-law, with some clever computer skills, arranged for a letter to come from Father Christmas every month. Each letter had an item of food for my picky granddaughter to try. Some worked and some didn't but she eats a slightly more varied diet other than pasta and grated cheese, strawberries, blueberries and apples.0

How can a satsuma be wonky?!?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Good Morning:hello:apple_muncher wrote: »How can a satsuma be wonky?!?
I dunno - ask m0rri$$ons! :rotfl::rotfl: The 'wonky' satsumas and the 'wonky' lemons looked to be tiny - rather than wonky. The satsumas were just what at other times are described as 'children's' satsumas, or 'mini' satsumas. Still, they taste OK, and were affordable, so......
We'll need to save every penny we can, we've had a quote through for some work. Gee, what a p*$$ take. Trouble is, it is some sub-work for the main work, and we can't easily 'just get someone else to do it'. Wish I could just pluck figures out of the air and get paid if some of them stick......
We're haemorraghing money like mad at the minute. It's got to stop.
July will have to be beans and rice, beans and rice, beans and rice. Irrespective of whether we have a heat-wave or not!
Bother. I'm an umpity-flumpity-flump now
Right, tea. Um. Pizza (black olive), rocket, black-eye bean salad. That'll do, and I'll have nowt to buy fer it.
Start as yer mean to go on Greying!

I think all smalls go through the fussy stage. My older two now eat most things although the younger of the two older doesn't like meat. Youngest (4) however has never eaten anything other than 'chips' or pepperami (so much so pepperami sent her a huge parcel to hospital on her last birthday)
She's supposed to start full time school in September and I'm really worried about her eating
School has made the older two more likely to try things however. Like over Eid they had food stuffs brought in to celebrate and there's no way they'd have tried half the things they did if I gave it to them :rotfl:
