You reminded me of my experience at primary and secondary school WannabeFree - I tasted green tea (euk!) and encountered matzo for the first time at school, as we were exploring other cultures and religions. That was years ago
I do think I need to work harder in exposing BG to new foodstuffs though. I tend to get thwarted too easily and always have fear of 'waste' at the back of my mind. I don't mind children not liking things - eg meat, on the basis of having at least tried. It's the 'not trying' I'm finding difficult. DH was put off meat at school because it was always cheap and grisly

GP - you're right about it being important for BG to see you and DH eating things, as that's how they learn. Encouraging them if they ask for something from your plate to try is a good idea too - although if they're starting to do that you might want to start putting dressings on the side (Or having a couple of bits of undressed items lurking tactically).
When BG is a little bit older, reverse psychology works. Put different things on your plate and tell them you didn't give them any as they won't like you - they may think you're trying to keep the good stuff for yourselfDepends on the child obviously!
Very few children will starve themselves, and clearly BG is eating a good variety of food - they have very adventurous parents to live up to! Apparently it takes 15 goes for them to get used to a taste. They start off preferring sweet as that's what they're used to from milk. Salty is OK as well fairly early, but sour and bitter are challenging - and bear in mind that different people perceive bitterness differently (hence the sprout/broccoli lovers and haters!). It's also about smell and appearance - so if you're eating something that has a smell they find unappealing that may impact on their willingness to eat something that isn't actually directly associated with that food.

I forgot to mention, that whilst tea was something of a fiasco last night in terms of gelling - the constituent parts were perfectly edible and DH and I ate them all up. No waste.
I must meal plan for July. No winging it. We've plenty in. I've got to run down stores, save money and tighten our belt. I won't be doing Frugalwoods UFM, as I no longer get much leverage from it - although I think, first time thru, it is worthwhile doing.
Right, best get shifting - a brisk walk is needed to rid myself of this umpity flump overcoat. Bah! :rotfl:

If any foodstuff had 'purple prickles all over it's back' I'm pretty sure BG would be game to munch it. We've only had 4 zillion renditions of that book......... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So, we've been out and about to see how far it was. And frankly, it was just far enough.
We restocked the banana tree, bought a seriously 'wonky' cucumber from M&$ - which was produce of Kent :j and was a decent size for 50p - MrM please take note with your overgrown gherkins masquerading as cucumbers for 55p!
We bought some lemons (not wonky) from HB - 5 for 89p, produce of S. Africa today, but much better VFM than the mrM offering. I also got some passata and chopped tomatoes for curry for tomorrow night and a long overdue lentil bolognese cook-up (read that carefully!) for next week.
I did forget the TV mag again - only ever think about it in m&$ and they don't stock it anymore! :doh:

Well, tea has been munched. There is no need for rtandon to reach for the smelling salts, as we had pizzaI did decide to do asparagus pizza though, rather than black olive, as we've only had one asparagus pizza this season, and that was when we had visitors, and I only managed to nab one piece. So I thought it would be a good use of my wonky asparagus
And yes, that will be the last pack I buy, as it's too woody for too long up the stem now. The season is drawing to a close and the price is too high for what is on offer, so I'll quit with good memories of British Asparagus '18
As there were only 12 spears of asparagus, I left some of the pizza unadorned, so that there was cheese and tomato (base sauce) for BG - who loves pizza, but I have never seen them tuck into pizza like they did today! I love to see hearty appetites
For DH and I, there was black-eye bean salad and rocket leaves with our pizza. Very summery and made a nice change
Today i am grateful for these 3 things;
