Good Evening :hello:Pizza on a Friday...
...just saying...
Ha ha - we've not had one for an age! Which is possibly a good thing, as I most certainly didn't have any pangs of 'oh, a glass-o-red would be good with this':T Which was rather helpful, given it is still lent
I bought some "new" oven chips from h3r0n, 'L0n3star R0adh0use' brand, crinkle cut chips. I have see the brand in fArm F00ds and wish I had left them in the freezer today - utter waste of time, cooked away to nowt and tasted of nowt. Having said that, they were only £1 for a 1.25kg bag, so you pays ya money...... I'll go back to the Av1ko brand I normally buy, which are dearer, but are about the best that I have bought thus far.
Well, the weather hasn't yet been as bad as predicted, and we even had sunshine today :j So you can bet ya bottom dollar, that me & BG got out and about in itWe whizzed up the high street and shoehorned in a toddle too
I might be imagining it, but I think that the nearest branch of HB is decreasing it's food options. I realise that things come and go, and sometimes - eg Christmas - other food stuffs kinda take up room temporarily, but our branch definitely seem to be streamlining the food aisles........ Whilst I skip over alot of the processed stuff, there are some ingredient type things that they stock that I use. Currently they are choosing not to stock grilled peppers (jarred) which were really usefulThere is no SEL for them, which usually means that they disappear for quite a while. Our branch has only just recently got brown basmati back in again. Fortunately it is still £1 a kilo, but the brand has changed (not tried it yet). With h3r0n being less of a bargain shop these days, I'm really beginning to feel the pinch
I'm used to shopping in several different places, in order to get the best prices, rather than doing one shop in one supermarket, but it's starting to get ridiculous now.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
hand-written letters, arriving through the post
sunshine
new paths to follow
Ta for popping in and wishing us well. Appreciated.

Good Afternoon :hello:
How is life for you?
We're currently climbing the walls as the weather is a bit pants and there is zero incentive to stick as much as a nose outta-side of the doorIf we did, the whooshy-wind would whip it orf!
We did a "big" shop (for us) yesterday. DH was amazed at how quickly we got it done - it's called organisation, dear. Having a list, having a vague idea where stuff is in store - not easy with some shops who constantly change locations of items, seemingly for 'fun' and just getting on with it. Having others in charge of the trolley helps too - I could be 'hands free'.
I partook of part of the MrL offer. I got 2 bags of the soft dried apricots (49p each), 2 of the bags of grated mature cheese (£1.49 for.....450g - I think) and 2 bottles of the merlot at £2.99. So I've broken my lent challenge by buying alcohol, but I don't intend to drink it in March - it's just that we usually have that wine, and it was £1 off, so.........
fArm F00ds came up trumps - they actually had their onion nets in. 5kg for £1.59 - for British onions (specifically Norfolk), so I got 2, and when I took them to the till, there was such a nice lass on - really nice, polite and friendly :T And at 32p a kilo, mrAl and mrT can stick their 'sooper' veg offers, on onions.............. I'll take FF and wonderful customer service thanks v much.
Tea last night was curry plate. I made Lobia Masala (black eye bean curry) using some of the beans I soaked and cooked. i now have no dried beans left, but 3 cartons of cooked beans in the freezer. Accompanied by dhal and rice.
Lunch today was gussied up Jonnycakes, taking Nigella's recipe and incorporating grated parsnip, swede, carrot, fried up with onion and garlic. I threw in some cumin, pepper, chipotle chilli flakes, parsley and turmeric and cooked them in the conventional way. Served with baked beans and the remains of the YS'd cottage cheese I got in m&$ t'other day. DH ate a whole stack, as I did full-recipe - thinking BG might have tried some (resounding NOPE).
Tea tonight is going to be cardboard box fish, oven chips and mushy peas and I'm past caring :rotfl:

oooo - GP - those johnnycakes sound really interesting! - did you put the additions into the batter before frying or as a topping/stuffing after?
Had only ever had these ones before - a bit like a deep-fried corn donut!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oooh, I agree at being thankful that you have your friend's house to stay in, but completely understand about you both wishing that actually you were at "home" instead. Hope that happens for you soonest.oooo - GP - those johnnycakes sound really interesting! - did you put the additions into the batter before frying or as a topping/stuffing after?
I incorporated the veg into the batter rtandon. Ideally, the veg should have been cold/cool, but mine was straight out of the pan, into the batter. I don't suppose it matters overly much, apart from the heat would start to cook the eggs in the batter - but I was making them straight away, so it wasn't a problem. I'd love to try red peppers and olives in a version, maybe with some basil. Nigellas type of jonny cakes always remind me of the episode of the Sopranos where one of T's men went into hiding in a different state and visited a cafe and had jonny cakes for breakfast each day. Just as well he enjoyed them, as it didn't end well for the character...........:rotfl:WannabeFree wrote: »Hope the weather has improved and you can get out and about today

Yes lovely, we have pavement splitting sunshine, and although the wind is cold, we got out and about :j
We bought some bits and bobs up the high street - we were all out of fruitI picked up a library book that I had on order too. Naturally it is a recipe book, and I must get round to reading it and seeing if there are many interesting recipes, as I'm pretty sure that there is a queue of people requesting it, so I won't be allowed to renew it.
I popped into the BS to top up BG's saving acc. BG is richer than their mumma!:rotfl:
I forgot to mention that Saturday's shopping trip yielded some jarred red peppers from beeandEm. And I also got a jar of marmight from there - it is no longer on special at £2 (25og), but is now £2.35. Whilst that is probably about the cheapest for the branded article, I think that for my next jar, I may well return to supermercado own brand. There is a difference in taste/texture, but not sufficient to keep on paying more for the product.
Right, can't think of owt else :money:to witter on about, so best vamoose.
Ta for popping by for a chat. Appreciated
