Our FB gives out quite a bit of tinned ham and tinned tuna. I've never seen tinned meatballs but then that's not to say they don't have them. Personally I tend to send in things that are "less objectionable" so nothing with a very strong taste, needs lots of cooking etc.

Hello :hello:
I'm back :j
Thank you for all your advice regarding what to get for the FB. I have gone with a quantity of corned beef, a quantity of ham and a small quantity of chicken. I know no-one mentioned chicken, but I saw it and thought it may appeal, and offers a bit of variety, perhaps? Anyway, 10 tins........ £11  I have also got some long-life fruit juice (like the tinned meat, on the 'most-wanted' list) and some choccy biccysWhich has used up my available budget of £15.
We also popped our donation into the other FB today. The box still has our donations in. There isn't room for anymoreHope it gets emptied and sent to the FB soon
We've been trying to keep shopping to a minimum, if for no other reason there seems to be alot of 'extras' coming out of the food budget this monthHowever, I will be starting a 'Cmas' saving account from next month, so that 2018 will be budgetted for. At present, the Cmas FB items have been bought out of my November food budget. If I could accommodate it, it would be good, but I can raid a 'rainy day' pot if necessary. Gifted produce has been made to squeak and provided us with dishes such as afghan carrot hotpot. I'll be making use of the HUGE parsnips tonight in a risotto and I'm still struggling on the red cabbage, but have........ been gifted another
Right, best get on.
Ta for popping in and wishing me well. Always appreciated. Always.

Hi Greying, I’m having a diary catch up
hope all is well in the Greying family and your little one is growing up fast no doubt.
I popped a donation into our local food bank last week. I’m afraid it wasn’t a healthy one - selection packs for the Christmas boxes - but everyone needs chocolate at Christmas :xmastree:
I was close to calling the council recently to complain about the clothes, shoes and book banks that we have near the local car park in town. They were literally overflowing and people were leaving bags on the floor. What a waste of items that could have been used and probably now will be skipped. The following week there was literally a cluster of vans and people collecting and clearing.
Sending best wishes to you all. Tilly xx2004 £387k 29 years - MF March 2033:eek:

Well done on the FB donation. You're right, chocolate is needed, and well done you for thinking of it

great to see you back.
I did my FB donation when I had an unplanned supermarket visit - tampons, sanitary towels and toothpaste usually go in my donation (and chocolate)0 -
Yep we've always done sanitary goods for the Homeless Christmas Shelter donation Greenbee - along with toothbrushes, toothpaste and packs of wipes.
I'd be inclined to hold off on donations to the regular foodbank for the time being Greying, if it were me. Presumably there isn't a huge requirement if they can't be bothered to empty the box? I guess that should be reassuring - certainly in our area they can't empty the donation boxes in the supermarkets fast enough!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Funnily enough greenbee & EH I found myself in mrS today, and had a glance at the (very full
) FB donation bins as I went past and saw that plenty of people had followed your lead and put sanitary and personal hygiene products in :T
EH - this new FB I'm donating to doesn't 'empty' this particular box - I'm assuming a 'volunteer' does (probably nothing to do with the FB per se)They possibly do it monthly? But the box isn't huge..... and I can't think that people are actively encouraged to donate
I'd volunteer to do it myself, but the FB is located in the next market town along, and I can't get there when the FB is open
I think there is definitely need where we are. I just don't think people perceive that need and so there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency to get the goods to the FB shelves for distribution.........:o
