  • pricey i know but the sparks shop does tins of chunky chicken in white sauce. it works well in vol au vent cases to stretch quite far or, when mine were small, was a quick make with sweetcorn (and sultanas, don't ask) to be served with rice. DD sent her brother a tin last year with a packet of uncle bens to repay his having treated her to dinner!

Thanks inod - Looking on mesupermercado, both mrT and mrS have a product that is similar. Now back in the dim and distant past when I did eat meat, I had the sparks product as a 'treat' meal, so concur it would be a good thing. I wonder what the quality of their tin is like compared to mrT and mrS versus price these days? It's over 30 yrs since I ate it. My only one ponderment about that product is that 'technically' it has alcohol in it (doubtless sniff or you'll miss it), but the agents of this particular FB may not approve....... but I did think it might be a nice choice...... dunno......

If I was you I would stick to tinned ham or tinned corn beef.
They are both very popular with the clients.
Cant say our FB has a big take up of tinned meatballs.
I would say keep it simple.
    Tinned tuna also popular :)

  • Isn't it funny how connections happen? I was having a very funny conversation with someone t'other week that involved mention of and demonstration of 'the rowing dance' to the tune by the Gap Band, 'Oops upside ya head'. BG was with us. Roll forward to Saturday night when I was sitting listening to the radio, and said song came on to R2. I was smiling to myself, thinking of this person, and our conversation. Fast forward to this morning, and I was in the dining room, sitting across from DH & BG who were sat on/by the sofa. Purely by chance, some of BG's soft toys were sat on the sofa, in a line, which prompted me to say, 'oh they look like they are doing the 'rowing boat' dance'. 'Oh yes,' says DH - cueing me to burst into song.....BG who was in front of DH (who was sat on the sofa), immediately threw their hands up in the air and smiling said 'yeh'.......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: All we needed was a glitter ball hanging from the ceiling and we'd have been right back in the 70's :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: How I wish my friend could have seen it, to see the influence they wrought...... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • I agree tinned cornbeef or ham.

Tinned meatballs isn't something I'd choose to eat. However we did recieve some and some tinned hotdogs from the FB when we needed to use it :o and I can say my kids thought all their christmas' had come at once

'Branded' tinned ham is usually a lot cheaper in discount stores, home bargains or similar.

Such a lovely thing to do.

    Have a good day x

Another here who would go the corned beef route. Otherwise what about tinned sardines? Or I guess there is always "Spam...Spam...Spam... " :rotfl: Yes, maybe not!

I spotted that BNS are on the S6 at Al's this week - might nip in there at some stage and grab another one although I only just used the second of the two I bought from POTW in Lil's the other week... I do love them though - so versatile!

  • I would go for tinned mackerel fillets, corned beef, maybe tuna but tuna is quite pricey. Hot dogs in a jar perhaps, although I'm not sure how much can be said for its nutritional density...

The bones and fins in sardines gross me out (sorry EH), and I'm not usually squeamish when it comes to food.

Haha SQ I know other people who say that - personally I love them - which is a good thing considering they're rich in iron and given my current history...yada yada!

Oops Greying hope the 'pooter is just having a minor blip and sorts itself ASAP.
