  • If you're still looking for a BNS curry recipe, I can recommend this Anjum Anand recipe :)

    MWCx

Thanks mwc - I made a version of a BNS and chickpea curry last week, when my computer was down? so I probably should have mentioned that in my post, doh  But thanks for the link - I love Anjum's recipes :D

Anyway, there has been a change of plan and we're having tomorrow night's tea tonight, as DH wants to watch the rugger and so do I - but I can't if I'm stuck in the kitchen cooking tea :( We'll have curry tomorrow night, no spectacular galivanting is planned, so I should have time to make curry :D

And the younger they are the more efficient they are at producing it... toddlers seem to do so pretty much full time

I'm several decades on from toddlers and I can till give them a run for their money!

(However, avoiding dairy, wheat and nanas and sugar - and drinking copious amounts of water - does reduce the quantity greatly)

  • Good Morning :hello:

Well, am I glad that I changed plans regarding tea last night to something 'easy'. We got to see less than half the Scotland rugger match (which was and seemed to be very close and well contested :T), as there was something of a p00 expl0si0n at the towers. An 'it's easier to put you straight in the bath' type episode.......

Tea was oven chips and some sweet potato, paneer and spinach veggie 'burgers' I had picked up in h3r0n for 69p for 2. They were ok, I'd have them again for that price, although I think the paneer had been allocated lightly...... There was mushy peas as an accompaniment.

BG was up for over half the night with the snuffles. I, like apple am a sn0t-based squillionnaire................ :rotfl:Still, BG is eating OK and bright enough in themselves, so we're just wading through it at the moment.

I'm hopeful we can get out for a breath of fresh air today. It would do us all the world of good. I haven't got around to writing out my meal plan as yet, but I have 2 ideas already, using stuff that we already have in, so my mind is 'on it' :D

The budgets are starting to look very squeaky, but I'm expecting that, so will keep a close eye on what is needed and whether other budgets are being subsidised too much by the food budget.

Right, DH has put BG down for a nap - they need it, but whether they'll take it....... So I need to be away and making hay :D

Ta for popping in - appreciated.

  • Good Evening :hello:

The lack of sleep is beginning to catch up with me, but I didn't want to not make a post tonight, especially following a very kind pm that came my way today. I didn't want the MSE'r that wrote it to think that I'd not received it, nor read it, nor reflected on what they said.

Perhaps as adults we're led to believe that we're always to 'have it sorted', and never make mistakes, or bad decisions, or have things go t1ts up for no other reason than, *because*.

And don't talk to me - as an adult - about 'fairness', or 'justice' or 'right'. We all know that those states don't come with guarantee certificates................

The truth is, life much more confused, complicated and challenging than we expect, or are led to believe.

And that sometimes floors us. For the moment, for the foreseeable or for what seems a lifetime.

I am currently engaged in a 'fight' for the 'right thing to be done' with a large organisation. I've been engaged in this fight for a long time. I have supporters of my arguments and theories, I am not arguing that the moon is made of cream cheese, I am arguing from a sound policy, practice and legal standpoint. And yet. There have been many times when I have felt utterly alone. The argument has been going on for too long. I am mentally and physically drained by it. And I'd almost reached a point of pulling the plug on the whole dang process this week. A combination of being without easy access to the web, and receiving a communication from someone that gets paid too much money to do, and to say, nothing was almost the final straw.

But I got the strength (from who knows where) to share that communication with someone that is supporting me. Someone I've never met, and possibly never will. They took the time to write me an email - that was longer than was necessary than the 'thanks, we'll put it on file' that they could have sent me - and reminded me that the battle was not yet over. The communication I had received was defensive, and to be expected. They reminded me that the battles most worth fighting are those that need to be fought, even if you think you have no hope of winning. Sometimes you get the most objections, because your viewpoint, argument or position is right, but your opponent is unwilling to make that concession to you.

I cannot articulate what an actual difference to my day, the timely receipt of that email made.

But it does support my belief that help or support is actually all around us. Maybe, in this 'virtual' day and age, the support isn't 3 doors down from you at no. 47, or 2 streets away on The Avenue. It could be a keystroke away through your computer/phone/tablet screen.

I don't think I would get support for my 'battle' from 3 doors down, or 2 streets away, but I have got support from strangers. My 'battle' isn't actually anything connected with 'debt-busting' or 'money-saving', but it has absorbed my life and impacted on my being and doing for a very long time. Having a diary and being able to articulate that things have 'gone awry' on occasion has been invaluable. Because, whilst not directly connected to the key thrusts of this forum; anything that consumes your time and energy to such an extent, is bound to impact on your daily living, your actions and your thoughts.

Some people may feel that I am 'too' private and don't share much detail on here. To them, I say, I share as much as I am personally comfortable with. But other people still take the time to support me, to send virtual hugs, offer suggestions or just say, 'I'm here if you need me'. And friends of this diary (and previous diaries), such as Upsidedown Bear and Shovel Lad and a whole group of dedicated forumites work tirelessly to try to limit the activites of tr011s, and make this a safe space to be heard. For which I am very grateful.

It's taken me quite a while to learn that I can't do everything. It's taken me even longer to learn that a problem shared usually means it is sorted in a jiffy. It's taken me even longer to learn that very often, 'strangers' can be as supportive, more supportive, or become bl0ddy best-buddies when you're going through the mill. Always ask for help. Don't struggle on alone. Never think it's just you.

  • Good Morning :hello:

Am I up bright and early with the larks? or am i just unable to sleep? i think it's probably the latter, but I can get on with things, so here I am :D

Tea last night was butternut squash, lentil & lemongrass curry with rice. A new recipe, although similar ingredients to thursday night's dish :o But good none the less. i'd certainly make it again. I used brown lentils in my version, as I have plenty of them. I cooked extra, and have put the other portion in the freezer, so that I am half way to a curry or bolognese in the future The blog/website is new to me too, and looks like it will be a good source of tasty tucker :D Mention of Maggies Centres always reminds me of dear kissjen. Brave, battling, kissjen. I never got to meet her in RL before she passed, but I wish I had, I really wish I had.

So apart from a little bit of cooked, cubed BNS that is now in the freezer, i have used all of the huge HG BNS. It has been a delight, and made at least 4 dishes for us both. Very good value for money. And the food miles could be counted in wheelbarrow wheel revolutions too - bonus! :D

I have done my meal plan for this week and stuck to using things up. Having said that, I did go to mrAl yesterday and get some groceries, although most of it seems to have been 'for the future' - getting things for December, whilst it is still possible to get in the store before folks start their Cmas shopping in earnest.............. ;) I did get some of the S6 leeks, with the intention of having a bash at the red cabbage dish muddywhitechicken told us about, and I bought some of the garlic too - which I seem to have missed was in the S6, but at 49p for 4 bulbs, it was too good to miss. I actually got some eggs from mrAl too. I dislike buying them from there, as the FR large ones are always on the top shelf - believe me, you can't reach up for an 'attached to another' box of eggs whilst wrangling a small :D But I was small-free and took the plunge, as it appears our h0me barg1ns has currently stopped selling eggs* Ironically the first box I picked out (after having to detatch it from another box first....) had a damaged egg in it - I'd have actually said it was 'peck' damage, which shouldn't really have been packed......... Either I'm getting too fussy, or buying eggs these days has become more than a bit of a lottery.

    * HB not selling eggs is something of a mixed blessing. I have had so many cracked and damaged eggs from there, that I wouldn't buy them without thoroughly checking each one in the box first. Not always easy with a small in tow.

I did also invest in a wrapping paper box :D Yes, the person who has failed to get enthused about Cmas for over 2 decades now has their very own wrapping paper box................... :rotfl::rotfl:I blame edinburgher over on MFW, for planting the seed of 'desire' for this item ;):D The fact that it also appeals to my practical, organised and 'less work in the long run' side is a plus :D It'll also help me to keep my money in my purse, as paper will be kept 'pristine', rather than getting torn, dirty and dusty and therefore wasted. It was on offer too, with 1/3rd off the price, so...... :D

Right, I best pootle orf and get snap on the go. BG is sleeping, although they are still extremely snuffly. But hopefully the fact that they are getting some sleep will help with their getting over this lurgy properly and hopefully, swiftly. Once they've regained their sleep pattern, perhaps their mumma will too! :T

Ta for popping in. Appreciated. Greatly. Always.

  • You're educated me Greying - I had no idea that a spsecific wrapping paper box was even a thing, but there you go! I have googled and discovered that it is...and will continue to stash mine in the drawer under the bed as I always have done. They make those drawers the right width for a reason, right?! :rotfl:

Nice to see a mention of Kissjen - along with Taxi she's someone who I have very fond memories of, from here.

And Beanie right there with you about what schools think is reasonable to expect parents to manage these days, financially.
