  • Hiya

Just wondering whether you have a link to this Service Bulletin. I have searched the number but have had trouble finding a copy of it so far.

    Cheers

  • Hi all,

I think I know the answer but just looking for some advice/confirmation!.

Getting a P0016 error. Camshaft/crankshaft correlation. From what I’ve read, pretty sure I’ll be wasting money with the sensors being changed as it’s more than likely going to be the timing chain. 2011, 49k, not serviced for a while, etc. Can’t remember the last oil change.

Is it worth getting the sensors changed or am I just throwing money away? Changed the cam sensor myself and nothing improved. I was told the only way to tell if it’s the chain is to take the car apart, so you may aswell change the chain at the same time! Find that staggering and wasn’t my usually garage. They said it was a cylinder misfiring, had that changed, engine light was still on. I think that was a fault positive code if that’s even a thing.

When idle, revs are bouncing below one, car cutting out sometimes. The car is cutting out when the clutch is in, when coming to a shop/junction. (although this could be the P0068 throttle position correlation)??

Yes I know it’s my fault whatever it is for not getting regular services/oil change. Am just after some advise of what the issue actually is so am not wasting money.

    Many thanks

"Cam/crank correlation" is the cam position sensor and the crank position sensor disagreeing with each other.

It might be one sensor duff - it might be the chain having stretched or jumped a tooth. Given that engine's reputation and lack of maintenance, I don't think I'd be hoping for the sensor, even without the driveability issues...

Different car, but worth a watch.

We have changed a few of these and are changing a 2010 polo chain now. It's an in depth and time consuming job. We also repair engines with this issue and buy the 1.2 cars with stretched timing chains from customers. We have changed crank and cam sensors to try to cure, but nearly always ended up replacing the chain. Happy to give advice if anybody encounters the correlation fault.
