I assume you don't waste time servicing and checking your boiler either. Smart man, why waste £75 isshh. What's the worst that can happen.
And why waste £10 on a smoke alarm.0 -
We had a Worcester Bosch boiler installed recently. The installer was raving about how good they were. "I've had one for years. Never breaks down. Never gets serviced". I was laughing at him. "I don't think you're supposed to say that." Loads of people don't have boilers serviced. You do need to be careful if they are in your living space though. I would get a CO detector then.0

I do and have both. My family is worth more than £100 a year.
If I was having a decent Worcester Bosch installed with a 10 year guarantee. I would not be so dopey having it voided by not having a yearly service. Let alone wasted money if its not running efficiently.
Ohh and Worcester Bosch boilers do break down. Just less than others.0 -
Hi there. I wonder if you can help me or tell me how you got in with your problem as the same thing has happened to my Polo. It’s 2013 done 33k miles and at the dealers awaiting assessment but my regular mechanic tells me that’s what the problem is. The dealer denies that this is an issue with Polos. Looking forward to your response.0

Here's "one more bit of data" regarding frequent oil changes. I had a Jag. XJ8 for 16 years and, being a fanatic, had it serviced by the nearest Jag. people(where I had bought it) annually despite doing only 3,000 miles a year. At one stage after I'd had the car for about 13 years and the mileage was around 90,000 I started to get worried by lots of stories about the hydraulically operated timing chain tensioners being made of plastic which cracked and leaked oil thus reducing chain tension and leading to expensive failures. Eventually I bought new tensioners of the updated metal design and asked my local garage to change them. When they extracted the old plastic tensioners they were indistinguishable from new as was the whole timing assembly in the quad cam engine. Apparently there were additives in the oil which protected the plastic but which became depleted after the normal oil change mileage.0

Hi Everyone
I appear to be the newest victim in a long line. I purchased my Polo in July 2011 and despite it being one of the models known to be affected in Australia, it is out of warranty. The Polo has 68,000 kilometres on the clock and the engine has failed catastrophically. I have had it serviced in line with the kilometres travelled and not every year so apparently VW considers that "poor servicing" and won't assist. I'm just wondering if anyone has any research material, copies of the service bulletin referred to or any other information that may assist me, I'd really appreciate it if you could get in touch/forward it. I've been looking on line and have found the Guardian article etc.
Thanks in advance

The usual service frequency of any car will quote either every xxx kms/MLS or xx months, "whichever comes first", you appear not to have complied with those last words by ignoring the time element, presumably because of your low kms/MLS. Don't expect any goodwill. Good luck.0 -

Sorry, but I don't blame them, and every other manufacturer would be the same. You seem to have misunderstood the word 'or' and should have been servicing it based on time rather than mileage.0
