Can I Claim Anything ?

  • I would like to point out, for the benefit of others, that you HAVE to ask for these benefits....I only went down this road because of a chance meeting with an old friend in the street one day, he asked if I was getting PIP because of my legs....I had never heard of it and said that I wasn't claiming anything, as I had taken early retirement, and would get nothing.....because of that meeting we are today nearly £2,000 a year better off, that's without the pending PIP claim....it seems that there are billions unclaimed out there, simply because people don't know that they are entitled to things.....I must also say that the help given on this site has been brilliant....if in doubt ASK.....and CLAIM.....if you don't, someone else will........Jack.

  • Just had a text from DWP, saying that they have received my application for PIP and that IF there is any need for an interview, with a healthcare professional then they will contact me....I assume that there will be, surely they can't make a decision without actually seeing you ?......Jack..

They can do a paper based assessment if they feel that they have sufficient evidence on which to make a decision.. If you disagree with that decision then you have the right to appeal.

Most PIP claimants do have a face to face - probably just someone writing from a script!

I thought as much, thank you, I fully expect to be called in for a face to face....we shall see.....Jack.

  • O.k...since sending off my PIP claim form, my right leg has got a whole lot worse, cold weather affects it, today I can barely stand on it....I didn't mention this on the original form, the thing is, should I contact them about this?...or wait until they send for me and explain it then ?....I did say that some days were worse than others, and, I would prefer to explain it "face to face".....am I doing the right thing ?.....Jack.

  • I would just explain it if/when you have face to face.

Did you get much help/advice with the form? I only ask because how you describe your difficulties is key and you really need to give a full accounting of them on the form.

You can't rely on the face to face to accurately represent the difficulties you face day to day. Supporting evidence and a well written form are the key to a successful pip claim.

  • Yes I got some good help from this forum, I gave a fairly comprehensive description of my difficulties, backed up with medical stuff and photographs....I just wish that I had filled in the forms today, as I am hardly mobile at all....we shall see......Jack.

  • If you haven't given an accurate accounting of your worst days it would definately be worth evidencing these in preparation for your f2f.

  • Just an update....Today received a letter from Capita, saying that my claim is being looked at, it says that I will "probably" be required to attend a face to face interview, and, if so will be contacted shortly....anyone have any experience of Capita, or their interviewing process ? good or bad, anything that will help me to understand how such things work......Thanks, Jack.
