Can I Claim Anything ?

Have you checked whether you are entitled to Pension Credit? Depends on when your birthday this year.
Use the https://www.turn2us.org.uk calculator - it is pretty accurate.
Pension Credit 'rules' are much more generous than other means tested benefits as regards savings.
If you were entitled to Guarantee pension Credit it would give you automatic entitlement to housing benefit/housing costs and full council tax reduction so worth checking.0 -
Thanks for that, I will look into it.....Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

O.k....have looked at turn2us, it would appear that my Mrs. may be able to claim guaranteed pension credit, and also may be able to claim a council tax reduction.....thank you for pointing me in the right direction......JackRetired (Early) April 20150

Remember that as you are married, the claim would be based on your joint income/savings.

Just an update....spent an hour on phone to DWP, luckily it free call, but well worth it....lady reckons we should get £21:19 a week, plus council tax reduction, backdated for 3 months, to be confirmed, or otherwise, within 4 weeks, so fingers crossed......thanks to all for help and advice......Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

O.k... another couple of updates, have now been to council offices and have got forms to fill in for council tax reduction, can't actually do anything until we hear from DWP, with their decision on which credit, if any, we can claim, I gather that if it is GUARANTEED pension credit, then council tax relief comes automatically.....is that correct ?....also had a text today from DWP, THANKING me for applying for PIP and saying that forms are on the way, to anyone else thinking about doing this, it IS a minefield, and can be very confusing, but, if you work through it methodically, and tell the truth, there is light at the end of the tunnel.......Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

O.k. Have received PIP forms this morning, a lot of what they contain does not apply to me, just the mobility part, but guess I gotta fill it all in...I have my discharge papers from hospital and the form giving my consent for the first operation, it gives reason for the operation as ''trying to save right foot''....are the PIP people interested in this ? as it says in booklet to just give information on '' how disability affects you now ''.....shall I send photo copy of everything to do with operations ?.....Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150
