O.k. here's the scenario.....took early retirement April 2015,with a ''decent'' lump sum and monthly pension.....with a view to doing part time work, on a zero hours contract....July 2015 had emergency operation to by-pass massive blood clot in right leg, so part time work out....October 2015 had another operation to by-pass blood clot in left leg.....right leg is now numb and probably always will be, I walk with a stick and have bought own mobility scooter.....people keep saying, ''do you claim this'' and ''you should claim that''......the question is CAN I claim anything.....we live on my private pension and wife's small old age pension...I am aged 63.......any help appreciated.......Jack.

Now we can actually read it, without knowing personal figures nobody knows. Perhaps put your details into a benefit calculator such as Turn2Us (if you gogole that it will come up).0 -
PIP is a possibility

This isn't an income based benefit.
As DomRavioli says try a calculator for other benefits but my gut reaction, taking account of your "decent" description of your pension and lump sum is that income based benefits are unlikely0 -
O.k, thanks for that, will have a look, just ''testing the water'' so to speak, I always thought that if you chose early retirement, then you were not entitled to anything at all, it seems that might not be the case....Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

You need to apply for PIP as soon as possible, as you can only begin a new claim if you are aged under 65, so please make that a priority. You will need a lot of medical evidence of your issues - try and ask consultants, GPs and spexialists for letters for PIP (they will likely know what to put) and CAB can help you with the forms.0

Thank you for that, I intend to start the ball rolling in the morning, by ringing DWP, I have the consultant surgeons details and intend to get G.P's opinion, in writing, he has already told me that right leg will always be numb, as they cut through nerves as it was an emergency operation, we can but try......Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

Do try and get help with the form as DomRavioli says. CAB will likely have someone who is used to them.0

Thank you, have just filled in the estimation form on that CAB link you sent, it does look as though I might be entitled to something, I probably should have done this before, but thought numbness would wear off, after 14 months it has not, some days it is really bad and limits my mobility......Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

Sorry to hear that you have been unwell - I remember your posts when you were contemplating early retirement.

Have you obtained a new state pension statement?

Xylophone, Thanks for that, yes had some good sound advice back then, about 10 weeks into retirement was rushed into hospital for by-pass operation , massive blood clot in leg, it has been numb ever since, just seeing if I can claim PIP.....it looks favourable so far....Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

I have started the ball rolling, by ringing DWP this morning, I should receive a claim form from them within 14 days....we will see what happens...Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150
