Windows 7 Freezing

AVG can have that app removed but to be honest you have to keep track on which AV is leading by not hogging, my strategy is to use a very old version of Malwarebytes but use up to date database.

The biggest weakness of Windows is networking, yet so many apps install agents and update modules that are simply not needed. These compete with each other and often cause a system to freeze or become sluggish. Basically they hit a bottleneck on their server and hog networking, it then makes all other components wait.
If it is an AV update one you need to disable it via the prescribed method but for all those others, it is time to nuke them. Start by looking in the system tray to see what you have, run MSConfig, disable all to see the impact, I have just one or two in use. Next right click my computer and click "manage" you need to use admin to do this, scroll down and look for things like Skype updater, GoogleUpdate, Apple update and disable them. Yes I include those OEM ones too, HP this and Acer that, all bloatware. Make sure you have not adware, toolbars etc.
I find Apple services just slow down PC's, I disable and load them when I need them (rarely), they have 3 services.
Next head over to the Task Scheduler, here you will see the likes of Google put in a task so if you disable they do it anyway (malware does that too), so disable those tasks that have been added by Google, Skype, Adobe Flash, HP, you do not want to be part of Microsoft customer assurance bull so disable that.
It is more often than not these tasks that are doing update sheeeet in background that causes problem.
Now to figure stuff out you need to become intimate with the processes that are normal and needed, vs those that are not. To identify the badly behaved you need to not only use Task Manager but Resource Monitor, first with Task Manager add fields, yes command line as suggested above, of nothing else it tells you what is microsoft and what not. Add CPU Time, as this will tell you which processes used the most since last boot.
An App should not really be using more than five percent for any length of time, although some with grow (like firefox if you use it for too long, killing it and reloading gets you back to a decent level).
Resource Manager will tell you which device is the bottleneck, then you can drill down to which processes are causing it. Networking is pretty bad in Win7, it was designed for ethernet and wifi was poorly implemented after. Still, drilling down still allows you to see what is using resources.
You need to stop using internet explorer, it is so full of security holes, Chrome is fast if you do not mind Google spying, Firefox OK, it has best add-ons but really bad at memory leak, Opera is looking quite good. Install a few of them and see which you like.
With engineering you have to look at WHAT CHANGED, people are terrible at remembering, then when I figure it out and it was not mentioned, they say "oh yes I did update X or Install Y. So if worst comes to worst do a system restore and do a system restore save before you make the changes I suggested.
Slowly you can add one or two essential and I mean essential things back, do one thing at a time and use for a few days. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Ok I have fallen over the problem..... Not enough RAM. Got rid of a Java programme Rebooted and that was it. My memory usage is showing 4.5 GB, I have 8GB.getmore4less wrote: »don't forget to do show "processes from all users"If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
