    Did malwarebytes find anything ?

Next thing i would try is re-seating the memory if you are comfortable doing so, and then doing a disk check .

run cmd as administrator, and type chkdsk /r
    and press enter

once this has completed, it's probly worth scanning the file system also, so type

    sfc /scannow

Let us know how you get on

Ok I have fallen over the problem..... Not enough RAM. Got rid of a Java programme Rebooted and that was it. Not sure if I'm still on the verge of not having enough but I have done all the above including changing from AVG to Bitfinder. My memory usage is showing 4.5 GB, I have 8GB. I really do appreciate you pointing the way for me

Do you have any other Java apps? If not, it'd be worth uninstalling Java as it's a bit of a security vulnerability. Sometimes new Java versions don't remove the old version when they're installed, so make sure you've removed them all.

Did you have a lot of apps open at the time? 4.5GB is a fair bit of memory to be using if you aren't doing much.

That memory usage seems very high.

You may have a program running that is leaking memory.
Open task manager, go to the processes tab and click the heading titled "memory" so the computer will order them in size order ..
See what's at the top of the list and let us know

Yeah, ie shouldnt really be using 165 meg .. What version of IE are you using ?
Does your computer still freeze when internet explorer is closed ?

Close it and try this fix it .. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2970908

Disable any addons ( tools, manage add-ons, disable them)

Let us know how you get on then.
