  • I've ordered many times from Scan and I've never had a problem with them. They've always been really good and their prices are among the best around.
Hmmm processor's fine for it but the RAM won't be high speed gaming ram (i.e corsair)

This isn't really a problem. I run on PC5400 standard dirt cheap RAM and my PC runs VERY well. Low latency (high speed) RAM is a luxury item that most people can do without to be totally honest. Yes it IS better but at a premium that often outweighs the benefits in my opinion.

CustomPC did a comparison test or two PCs a few months ago of exactly the same spec except one was built from expensive 'luxury' components and cost around £1500 - the other about £700. The differences were certainly not worthy of the price difference although saying that still go for the best you can. The trick is knowing which components to spend the extra on.

Donna, I'll try and find somewhere online that'll do a good system at a good price. What sort of budget do you have in mind ? I often find the best way to spec a system for someone is to find out what they plan to do with it (which you've explained) and what budget they're comfortable with.

as it is very easy to miss something on websites i decided to have a look around some shops today to see if i could find anything at a similar price that could better the one i am looking at. an acer t180-4000 and a packard bell 2310 came close. while talking to one of the assistants in comet they said that it is alot cheaper to upgrade the ram than the graphics card. i cant find a pc that has better ram and that also has at least the same standard of graphics without paying another 2 or 3 hundred quid. so i think i may well stick with the one i already have in mind, providing it is still in stock. if it isnt i will just wait. i will just upgrade the ram later if it proves necessary.

well i have gone and ordered the pc i was looking at from pcworld. i am slightly worried because i ordered it yesterday afternoon and they have yet to send the third email that 100% confirms the order. the pc is on sale so could be out of stock. is it normal for it to take one day or more for the third email to arrive?
