  • Wait.. don't order it yet.

Never mind... it'd be over budget :D

.... unless you can squeeze an extra £37.83 out of your budget. You'd have a great machine then with no future upgrade needed for a long time !
  • I haven't :) How come?

  • In the Bundles of the week section on the site they are doing a bundle offer of

    Abit AB9 WiFi iP965 motherboard
    Core 2 E6600
    1 GB of PC5400 RAM
    400GB HDD (7200 rpm 16mb cache) for £270.24.

This E6600 processor would mean you'd have a fantastic future proof system which is easily comparable to my one that I expect to last me a long time yet. And more importantly will never struggle, EVER, on CSS with everything full :D HDR is niiiiiiiiice on militia and prodigy is stunning.

It would mean you could add another matching 1GB RAM (Item number LN7771) . The 8800 320MB graphics card, power supply and case taking you to a total of £537.83.

If you can squeeze the extra £37.83 into it then it's well worth doing. If not then the first option is still a damn good machine.

In fact remove the case and the power supply and add the 2nd offer of Xclio 6010 case and 550W EZcool power supply for £35.24 and save yourself £3.99 :D

1 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Combo (bundle)
1 Xclio 6010 Case + 550W EZcool Power supply combo (bundle)
    1Gb (2x512MB) Corsair TwinX XMS2 PC5400 Memory
    1 320MB Gainward 8800GTS Bliss graphics card

    Total £533.84 delivered.
    Perfect :D

  • No problem mate. I hate seeing people get ripped off with PC hardware when all it takes is a little advice and guidance to get a beast of a machine for pennies :D

I'm off to a meeting now so I promise not to make any last minute edits :D
Let me know how you get on with and I'll maybe see you on CS:S sometime.

    Good luck.
  • Whichever C2D cpu get, overclock it. They are incredibly good at it. I've been running an E4300 which has a stock FSB of 200Mhz at 275 Mhz on the standard cooler. I've just ordered a new Zalman one fo £19 though so hopefully it will be going a bit faster soon. Some people have actually got 80% overclocks out of the E4300 on air cooling.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Yeah overclocking is great but I wouldn't recommend it without a lot of reading first. Learn about overclocking as much as you can before you consider trying it. In theory it's a very simple premise however there are many many factors which influence it's success. It's unlikely, but damage to the chip IS a very real possibility. I'm of the thought that if you can run at stock at an acceptable speed then leave it at that. I know some people like the challenge of overclocking and it's a hobby in itself but if you just want to mess about with it coz you can then make sure you do your research first.
  • i used to overclock but dont see a need with todays speeds :)

I'm the same. I only really overclock to try and squeeze a little more performance out of my system before I upgrade. I don't usually notice much of a difference to be honest except when I messed with my old Geforce 6800 graphics card. I unlocked 4 pixel pipes giving it 16 instead of 12 which made a big difference.

Anyway with a 6600 and an 8800 320MB, you won't need to overclock much.
