Problem topping up Revolut from overseas debit card?

Hi all, I'm not sure if anyone can offer any advice here, but here goes. I have had a Revolut card for several months now but I have been unable to top it up from my debit card from an overseas bank account. When I use the Revolut app, it scans the debit card OK, I input the information the app requests and the app then tries to authenticate the card. At this point the authentication fails. I've tried a few times and the same always happens. I have tried the support function in the Revolut app and I have shared screenshots with them. They tell me there's no reason they can see why the card isn't passing authorisation. To be honest though, I find using the Revolut app quite a ball ache for things like support on my phone. But I can't see any other way to contact them. Any body got any advice about this problem? Thanks.

Which overseas bank account are you trying to top it up with? Is it a Maestro debit card?

Are you using the correct billing address?

I had this problem back in August after Revolut had changed their payment processor to Wirecard and requested cards to be deleted and re-entered, a non-UK card kept failing when it came to the verification stage. I had a lot of help from the agent via chat, adjusting my registered address to make sure it matched with my bank etc, but I presume you have already checked all that.

Finally I got it to work by using a different data connection on my phone, with a different SIM. I had no WiFi at the time. You might try something like that, switching from WiFi to mobile data or vv.

Thanks, it is not Maestro it is a vanilla VISA debit card issued by Bankmuscat in Oman. Everything with the Bankmuscat card works as it should. The only issue is with Revolut not verifying it correctly.

The Revolut billing address? It's my home address in the UK. I have no address in Oman.

    Thanks.

Thanks that's the same as me then. When you say registered address is that with the Revolut card (my UK address) or with the overseas card? I have no address in Oman, that might be the problem then? The Revolut online support in the app had no idea what was wrong. Is there no other way to contact them at all? Revolut have confirmed they do support Omani Rials.

I would imagine that perhaps money laundering regulations would prohibit the topping-up of UK issued prepaid cards from foreign bank accounts

Revolut has never said that. They tell me I shouldn't have an issue. But they don't know why it isn't working. Thanks.

Just thinking............... Has anyone topped up their Revolut using bank transfer? I know that works to transfer GBP to my UK current account from Oman. Surely then it would work to top up USD on my Revolut? I can see the details on the Revolut app to make a transfer in.

No, that's not relevant here. I've topped-up Revolut from various non-UK accounts, but all registered to the same address as held by Revolut. If it's a substantial amount, at some point later they will request verification of source of funds, I've done that too.

It's still not clear what you are trying to do - the currency you are intending to top-up with and the address that your Omani account is registered to. If it is not exactly the same as your UK address registered with Revolut, the card won't be accepted.

If your Omani account and card is OMR denominated it is unlikely to work for topping-up your Revolut USD balance. If it's USD denominated there is a 3% charge for topping up with a USD debit card, and if it is (or is recognised as) a credit card that's another 1%. In this case a bank transfer will probably be cheaper. If you can send the funds to Revolut as USD, the only charge will be that made by your Omani bank to do so.

It's probably worthwhile for you to study the Revolut FAQs and 'Fair Usage Policy' - all the info you need is likely to be there. Perhaps the CS agents helping you have assumed that you already did so...

Thanks, that's very helpful. I think it is clear the failure of card registration is because I have no address in Oman. I can transfer USD from my Omani account to the Barclays Revolut account and this seems the way forward. The Omani bank charges a flat 5 OMR (GBP 10) to make a transfer.
