I have been in your position crunch - 2 young children, a job I absolutely hated and a husband urging me to leave probably because I was so snappy when getting home from work and overeating due to being miserable. We did not have debt (a necessary consequence of my job as mortgage arrears counsellor) but I was sceptical if financially we could manage as my husband is a fritterer and any attempts to restrict his spending went down like a ton of bricks. I did leave and money was extremely tight but luckily I got on a free training course and eventually got the job I am in now (retiring in December). It was the best thing for me but I think ideally I would rather have found another job first. I do not regret changing jobs though so once your finances are in place and you can manage then I would leave and do something else. Life is too short.

Your husband sounds like mine though in that he was not interested in budgeting so for that 6 months we fought just as much over money rather than the job though. Eventually it all settled down.

    Thanks for the support!

I'm definitely leaving to do something else and I would have left at Christmas if our move had have gone through this week, despite the debt as we would have found a way. I don't want to risk handing in my notice and then the house going wrong for some reason.

It will be hard but the extra money will come in handy, and I can definitely crunch this debt again.

At the moment yes because it’s half term I guess!! Ha ha!

So seven weeks left till Christmas but you can basically write the last week off and then 2 weeks then it’s inset days for the first week in January then 5 weeks then a week off then a six week count down.

    Morning all

Still haven't moved! Should definitely be by next Friday now. It's husband pay day today so I started shuffling money around and then the website went down - very annoying.

I saw husbands £100 min payment for his credit card has come out so that means this is now down to £2718 - small wins! I have paid off a few bits of dog equipment with some spare money I had allocated so total debt is now currently £6915. It will get bigger and then smaller again as various things get paid off. I really can't wait for the dust to settle and we know where we are once and for all.

I need to get toiletries today from sains bobs and pick up some food and treats and cleaning stuff for the pup. I also need to do the weekly food shop so a bit of a spendy day but all budgeted for.

  • How annoying about the website.

Moving house is always stressful, will it definitely be next Friday now? You know you can have a day off paid for moving house? Nobody told me that until I had issues once, and then I got told it was acceptable.

Once Christmas is here, you should know where you are up to. I hate not knowing where I am and feel totally unsettled when it is like that.

How is the puppy settling in?

I didn’t know that actually. It’s not definitely Friday it’s just that’s the next day we can do it and now everything is settled with our sale it should be very possible. Everyone wants it to happen as soon as possible.

Puppy is doing great! I’ve had to buy about £150 of equipment so far
But that should set us up for a while.

The bonus about not having moved yet is that we should still have the smaller mortgage payment this month which is £500 less than the new one. That should go along way. Someone is looking down on us!!

I only spent £50 on food for the week in a l d I yesterday!! Just need to get some mince fro the butchers and we are set!!

Really really wanting a no spend week this week. No booze even if it gets really stressful. Should be very possible.

I’ve been chatting with the husband again about the ‘leaving work at Christmas’ thing and I think it’s back on. I’ve been stressing about my sickness meeting next week and what I will say in it and then how I will cope with the outcomes for the next few months. I’ve also been thinking about what we would do with that £2.9k and although it would go along way it wouldn’t actually make any difference to our budget as we would have to pay £200 towards credit cards a month until they clear and it would only clear 1 by March. I’m confident I can recoup that money in my new venture very quickly once I get started.

I’m so up in the air about it I’m sorry!! It would have been ok if we had moved this half term as planned. I’d feel better about it.

Sometime I guess you have to have faith and take a chance xx

I didn't realise you had been called in for a sickness meeting. Can I ask how many days sick you have had in the last 12 months? Remember, any days taken to look after poorly children don't count, as they are a different leave category.

It’s 7.5 of my sickness and 5 from the children’s. The cut off point is 7 so that’s why I’m called to a meeting! Apparently it’s to discuss six weekly targets!!! Laughable!

Anyway it doesn’t matter anymore as it’s been cancelled because......

    I HANDED IN MY NOTICE!

And it feels so so good! Like a masssive weight has lifted. Talking about my next steps with colleagues has made it come alive for me and I’m so excited! Want to race through these next few weeks at school to make it happen sooner!!

So I’ve been up since 4am when the husband got up to get to train up north for the day!!the puppy woke up to so I have been downstairs playing and now he is napping on me. Dd is up to. It’s going to be a long day but at least it’s my Friday!

Hopefully we will be moving this Friday but I will beliveve it when I see it!
