Restaurant mislabelling a dish as vegetarian

Options
I work at a major high street store, whose staff canteen, sold me a pea and ham soup when they listed it as Carrot and coriander soup. I am a Muslim and and I have never ever eaten pork, and Muslims are strictly forbidden from eating pork. I felt sick at discovering this and felt really distressed.when I was told by a colleague that it was pea and ham. I told the canteen manager they merely apologised and offered me an alternative, not realising the implications of their actions. what are my rights under the circumstances and what can i do?

Perhaps it wasn't real ham but a turkey substitute for pork like all the foreign takeaways now do. ;)

Proper christians shouldn't eat pork, duck or shellfish, they also shouldn't consume alcohol. So I wouldn't consider the UK a christian country at all, it does very few christian things.

Pork is not poisonous nor are you allergic to it, I think under the circumstances a sincere apology is all you can expect. Religious observance is a personal choice. No-one else has to respect your choice not to eat pork.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Happened in my staff restaurant to my colleague Ahmed, he mistakenly bought a pepperoni pizza and ate a bit. He is an observant Muslim but just shrugged his shoulders and after swapping it for some chips said that Allah has more important things to worry about than what he puts in his mouth. He is an inspiration every day!

Any sensible religion would not have a problem with a genuine mistake, and would probably have a way of making penance so that the individual no longer feels guilty.

An allergy is completely different to religion. No sky fairy I know has ever personally intervened and struck down anyone eating 'forbidden' food.

An allergy is real and has real and immediate consequences.

However, such mistakes can happen and it is up to the allergy sufferer to carry the necessary medication at all times.

If I had a problem like that I would not eat out (Simple )

I have a problem with Asprin so I only take painkillers that have been prescribed for me.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Yeah but they didn't and had already been pointed out it should have been obvious to the op that the soup contained pork by the colour.

Basically you're playing a devil's advocate who just hasn't thought the counter argument through!
