That's over-reacting a little, surely? Opening bank accounts with any bank can take a while, all banks make errors now and then and Tesco aren't the fastest operator for new accounts.

My other half opened a second account with them a few weeks ago - and the debit card only arrived yesterday. But we knew it would come along eventually.

Tesco's current account earns 3% on £3k with no conditions attached at all. And you can have 2 per person. No other bank offers that kind of easy interest-earning deal at the moment, so it is worth having some patience!

How long between sending back the signature form to the account appearing online?

I applied for a 2nd current account on 10th Dec '16. The application pack did arrive promptly and I returned the application form on the date I received it (approx 13th Dec).
I realised that the application could be slightly delayed due to Christmas & New Year holidays, but when I had heard nothing by 10th Jan '17 I rang Customer Services. After a few minutes checking I was told that the application had been approved & I would receive PIN details etc within a couple of days.

It is now 18th Jan & still nothing - so I rang Customer Services again and they initially tried to tell me that I had not returned the original application form, then admitted that the form had been "mis-filed". More than 5 weeks and no further - I told them to forget it & I will open an account with a bank I can trust.
I have also written a letter to their Complaints Dept threatening to close my existing current account & await their reply.

Has the account still not appeared online?

I have mentioned before that customer services don't seem to hold the relevant information on account opening. I was told one thing by CS, only to find out that a different department deal with opening new accounts, and they just doing their job.......slowly. Once the account is open CS are great, but they can only see what 'new accounts' puts on the system which, by all accounts, ain't much.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Took a couple of weeks for my second Tesco account to be opened. They sent out the signature form quite quickly after applying (though had to phone up to apply as had similar problems to others applying online). Then it was a bit over a week for it to show up in online banking, and more like two weeks before the debit card turned up. So a bit slow, but meh, what's the rush?

Did it straddle the Christmas and new year period?

I opened my first Tesco account end of Dec, and a second one beginning of Jan, took about 10 days to receive the debit card, I thought that was good service.

Did the account appear online soon after you sent back the signature form?
  • My son has had problems applying for a second Tesco current account online a few times, getting the "There's been a problem....." page coming up.
On ringing Tesco customer services up, they said the issue was that he'd given details of his first Tesco current account when filling in the online application. He was asked to provide an alternative non Tesco current account number at this point, and got his second account immediately approved.
Just wondered if anyone else's problems with opening second accounts are for the same reason?

Just joined Tesco Bank and seemed a fairly smooth process to open two accounts (although hopefully not counting my chickens!!)

I did the initial application, including signing up for online banking. I then whilst still signed in to online banking clicked the option at the bottom right of the page to open a current account. Clicked through and found almost all the application was prefilled for me - just had to add in my non-Tesco bank a/c details and re-enter my income/expenditure but then all went through smoothly. They'd offered me an overdraft the first time round (which I declined) but interestingly didn't offer it the second time.

Hopefully everything opens fine but certainly doing the 2nd application whilst already logged in seemed to help matters go more smoothly.

Same here; I've opened four accounts in fairly quick succession (two each for husband and self). There was a slight little hiccup with the second two, which was easily sorted after I rang Tesco's. I actually gave it a couple of weeks between applying and Tesco's suggested I apply online after logging in to each account, which I did with no problem.

I'm hoping this is a good sign and that my dealings with Tesco's will be hassle free!! ;):p
A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.
