Fluids at airport security

Mascara and vaseline are definitely liquids, and Manchester Airport class lipstick and lip balm as liquids as well. If in doubt, put it in the bag.0

Just be careful what airport you are going through. I think some make up their own rules.Last year I went through Belfast City and had a few liquids in a clear resealable bag "large sandwich bag " and guess what? they told me that the bag was too big and I had to use one of their sized bag , of course I had to buy it , A bit of a scam I reckon!0

I've used a transparent cosmetic bag for about 7 years. Complies with the dimensions and volume (1 litre) but is more robust than a ziplock bag (has a proper zip too. It's fine everywhere except on two occasions at Heathrow T2. As with many things there is a lack of consistency in the rules from one airport (or even terminal) to the next.
I occasionally find the odd small tube of handcream/lip balm or a lipstick floating around in my handbag or pocket, and have never been picked up on it.0 -

Yet again someone calling something a scam when it is anything but.
The allowable size for plastic bags is the same in all UK airports and this is 20cm by 20cm and it is clearly stated on the websites for the airports (including Belfast City airport).0 -
Leeds Bradford bags are free, last time we flew (August 2016) plenty just laid about just before security, help yourself
Take as many as you like0 -
Here's the official rules:

When I was cabin crew I used to carry a printed copy as some security staff were jobsworths. I enjoyed seeing the expression on their faces when they realised they were wrong0 -

I agree.
If the bag isn't the correct size, Security have every right to insist you comply with the rules.
"Large sandwich bag" is not mentioned in the rules.
It isn't a scam.0 -
I've never put my lipstick in a clear bag, I tend to use Gatwick or City though to fly out, and various Spanish, Greek canary island airports coming back. Never been questioned or stopped yet.
I don't do it to be difficult, I just have nothing else to go in the clear bag so never remember to get one before I go through. The only time I did use hand luggage only I did put the lipstick in the clear bag but only because I already had the bag.
I have also had a Vaseline type lip gloss go through without a clear bag, but that was accidentally as I didn't realise I was carrying it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Last month I flew to Germany and forgot the plastic bag. So placed everything in a A4 paper sleeve as that was the only transparent thing in my handbag. How lucky no one picked on it.
This month to the US I remembered the bag but obviously didn't know there was a limit on the number of bags. Again I will count myself lucky not to be picked on it.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
SPC 09 - #452 - £2980 -

This plastic bag has to be provided to passenger for free.
Stansted Airport could give it for free, I can not understand why the premium airports where the airport tax /charges is much higher could not ???
This transparent bag is very cheap if it is bought in very large quantities.
Not to mention the time saving (e.g money saving) for security staffs ...0
