I used to love Hereford! do they still have the wednesday market (stalls not cattle!) I bought some great books there years ago. And the fair in the street?
dont live that far away, but havent been there for a long time.
Yes the weekly market is still going, but I don't know for how long, as they've been talking about moving it out of town for several years. The May Fair is still going too, but it is a bit of a nuisance as it makes the traffic (never very good at the best of times) grind to a complete halt.
Maybe we could sort out a Hereford Meet - that would be brilliant! :beer:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

dont know why
but I'm always surprised by the number of people on here from Gloucester and Hereford, I'm somewhere in between! A meet would be great!

Just thought I'd check in to read replies, really pleased that so many of you have posted.
As I have two clothes-mad teenage daughters, they are totally amazed that I could even go a week without clothes shopping.
When I think back to when I was their age, I remember having a fraction of the clothes they have, and would save up for ages for something new. I remember a certain pair of green satin hot pants (yes I'm that old!) which I wore to death. Looking at family photos, my parents seemed to be wearing the same stuff in most of them. How times have changed, the concept of wearing clothes long enough for them to actually show wear, or even worse, have to be patched or mended has gone for ever in our society I think.
The little brown dress website is really interesting!!0 -

I remember my Grandma had one best dress and then a couple of day dresses, and that was it! Warmer day dresses for winter with home knitted woolies. We have been so spoilt since 50's and 60's. The end of the war and the end of rationing, everything went mad!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

The "no buy for a year" list is originally from the SF Compact Group (ie San Francisco Compact).
Their website is

Well - my mother dropped in a bag of pass-ons yesterday - which included an article she'd cut out for me on decluttering (ie how-to). As I said to her - "Mother - you wouldnt be trying to say anything to me now would you?". To which she replied "Well - since you hate housework so much - fewer things would mean less housework". Sort of spoilt the effect a bit that she included a jumper she no longer wanted - not my colour, so its en route to a charity shop tomorrow.0 -
I seem to wear two pairs of jeans, and about 10 different tops, the problem is I have so much more; its just hidden in my ironing [STRIKE]pile[/STRIKE] mountian! So maybe my challenge could be to iron it all then I wouldn't have to buy any for a decade! My first win a Silver 60's CD yay!0

Great thread!
The longest I went without buying clothes was from 28th Sept to 22 Dec 2005, I had just started Slimming World and a friend who had lost her weight suggested I waited as long as possible before buying new/'smaller' clothes.
Things were flapping on me a bit by December but I spent cash in the sales and knew exactly what I needed! I e-bayed the 'big' clothes and my 'thinner' wardrobe was sparse but adequate. It is back up to f-u-l-l again.
Now the weather is changing I will be putting my summer clothes away soon, so I think I should join in not spending on clothes except for my next pair of 'best' black trousers, flat boots (if I can find a pair for my awkward feet) and some tights. As I am ready to lose some more weight - I have got too used to being a size 16 now.
December sales here I come!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I've ben buying specific clothes from ebay - mainly monsoon, so still not cheap, but put effort into aving a wardrobe that means I can mix pieces together. Scarily for the first time ever I have an outfit I happily can wear anywear. Plus, they are good qulaity pieces that should last for ages0

hi, this is an interesting thread, I was going to mention the little brown dress site, but see that other posters have got there already before me. that is an interesting experiment, but dont know if I could do it. I am off work next week and intend to go through wardrobe etc and work out a list of what OH, DS and myself need for the coming autumn and winter and stick to the list without any extras. I like the list of what not to buy for a year, might try that as well once got the clothes we need.0
