  • I had a massive clear-out of my wardobe during the school holidays (it was in such a mess for so long that even now I can't stop admiring it :) ). The vast majority of the stuff that I let go of was actually 'bargain' charity shop finds, and most of that was stuff I was too stubborn to admit that I wouldn't be seen dead in. We've moved further away from the nearest charity shops since I bought it all, and I've vowed that when I do manage to visit them I'll be more selective in future.

My one remaining problem is how to sweetly tell my best mate that I'm no longer going to be making room for her donations either - she usually bypasses the charity shop and gives them straight to me instead, with the line 'These are two small for me and I'll never get into them'. I've known her long enough to realise that this translates as 'These are things that I've been too stubborn to admit that I wouldn't be seen dead in'. Kindred spirits do indeed flock together :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!

Since my husband was made redundant in June 2005 I've been very good on the threads front. I've bought clothes but they've all been from the charity shop, an annual jumble sale I help at [very wealthy village] or my friends have passed on some lovely items [have swapped actually eg a mint condition per uno tshirt from charity shop which was too low cut for a gorgeous velvet jacket]. I have bought new undies:D and shoes but they have all been in the sales [eg boots from £69.99 to £14.99] and a couple of lots of scrummy yarn to knit scarves with. Broke my resolve on my 40th weekend away and bought a top and a skirt from the £5 reduced rail at one of the folk festival stalls. I find buying stuff that coordinates helps and I do mend/alter where necessary.

I too need to address the charity shop addiction....too many here on the Lancshire coast, but not quite the same quality of goods as my previous home town, so not as much temptation

I have a 1950's triple wardrobe that is too small for all my stuff, the excess is on a rail in the attic/office, with undies in my matching dressing-table, coats in back bedroom wardrobe, t-shirts socks & tights in chest of drawers, winter things get packed away each spring & ski-stuff lives in the big ski-holdall :o

The worst things for me are sweaters & shoes - i can't see the bottom of the wrdrobe for odd feet, and my woolies ottoman is so full I can't close the lid anymore

I think I will have to get all my stuff out (scarey thought - have i got enough floor to put it all on?!) and try-on & sort it out properly before putting the thinned-out clothing away :D

    petrol and car maintenance
allotment supplies - seeds or plants etc that will become food

I'm back, and I was very good :A . Only spent 50p, on an as-new M&S 3/4 length sleeve mushroom colour cotton top :). It is low cut, but actually flatters my protuberances very well! :o

Well you just can't let a bargain like that go by, can you? ;)
