My application didn't go as smoothly as I would have hoped, I received a letter last Saturday asking for my wife and I to sign to say we agree the T&C's. Posted it back duly signed same day. Three days later I get the exact same letter asking for our signatures! Sent them a message via the website and next day I got a response saying that the second letter was sent in error. Within a hour I got an email say our application had been approved and the account been opened.

Letters with both PINs has been received along with an information pack. Now waiting for the debit cards and then the switch to occur.

I've had a similar experience. I first got the letter earlier this month, then received a second one today. The second one is dated 10 October and had water damage, so I wonder if something happened to a batch of mailings and they decided to reissue them.

Also, I'm still waiting for a card reader so I can access my account online. I must have had 6-8 letters from them so far and the process still isn't complete.

I opened an account recently, the opening was quick and painless unlike others on this thread but the card reader did take a long time to arrive. I called them and they ordered another, I received one a few days later assuming it was the new one but it was the original one sent and I've now got two.

I'm waiting for the card reader in order to switch but it seems as though a branch visit might be in order instead.

Does anyone have experience of switching in branch at Nationwide? I obviously don't want to spend too long doing it.

All 736 of them I imagine!
  • Well my new account with Nationwide is open and working fine, debit cards received and internet banking working fine. The IOS app is working well on both iPhone and iPad too. Account switch is supposed to happen next Monday but I've started transferring cash manually just in case any of my upcoming direct debits come from the new account. The only thing I haven't received yet is the card reader but it turns out the old Barclays one works with the Nationwide card.

similar experience here. An email asking to present ID and also a letter. PIN arrived, then the card and finally the card reader. Finally got online and opened the regular saver.
A bit tortuous but go there in the end.

I had dreadful service from Nationwide more then 18 months ago.
Application accepted but nothing happened... more than once...the left and right hand appeared to be attached to totally different bodies!!!!

I was well pleased to switch to HSBC after 12 months earning some nice little incentives!!

Maybe they only deal with guide dogs and not hounds? ;)

Nationwide tend to be fairly efficient simply because they aren't a bank and seem to have far less legacy systems / processes to trip them up.

The staff also tend to be nicer than the big banks, if just as clueless generally.
