Nationwide FlexAccount

I applied online for an account with Nationwide 11 days ago and it said i was accepted and shortly afterwards received an email saying thank you for applying we are just carrying out a few checks and we will let you know etc etc within 5 working days.

I stupidly forgot to write down the reference number, thinking it would be sent in the email and so far have yet to hear anything else from them. Has anyone else applied for a Nationwide account recently? How long did the process take for the account to be open?

  • I applied for 2, one was a switch to their flex plus, told me I was accepted and the switch happened within 7 days.

the second was a flex direct and that was accepted and was opened and available for me the next day, obviously the cards and pins took a while to arrive. I would phone them, chances are they didn't find you name on the voters registry and made an attempt to contact you, or something similar. I wouldn't worry but I would call them.
  • I applied for a FlexPlus account yesterday, luckily I took a screenshot at the end of the application process and had the reference number. I then got an email requesting that I go into a branch with proof of ID, which I did this morning.

I still hadn't heard anything today so i went to the branch in town and explained i hadn't heard anything 2 weeks after applying and they looked up my details and said i needed to show some id, which i took with me just in case.

It would have been helpful to have got a letter or email telling me this, sadly my psychic abilities aren't what they used to be.

My id was fine and I was then told i would probably receive a letter sometime asking me to sign that i would have to send off. So it may be another 2 weeks before things get moving

As soon as I completed the online application I got an email requesting ID be presented. Are you saying you got no email or that the email you got didn't request it?

As we expected to be called in with documents we opened ours in branch and except for the cards and PINS, everything was instant, meaning that the money put in earned from day 1 .

It appears to be a default option that isn't screened for existing customers. I had the same message when applying for a flex direct account a few months ago, went in with ID and the branch staff said it wasn't necessary but recorded the fact that I'd attended.

The only email I received from Nationwide said,
Thanks for applying for a FlexAccount with us today.

We're just checking your application to see if we can open an account for you. We'll be in touch within the next 5 working days to let you know whether we need further information or if we can continue with your account opening.

I never heard anything else from them

After another week without hearing anything from Nationwide i gave them a ring to see what is happening.
After looking up my details i was told my application had been declined, i asked why and was told they couldn't find me on the electoral role, despite me being on it and having received voting cards and actually voting. Hopeless bank
Shouldn't your anger be directed at the credit reference agencies, or your local council? Unless you think Nationwide are lying and they didn't even look at your credit files?

My husband was declined for a loan due to the credit check not showing him on the electoral role. However, he was and voted in every election.

He contacted the electoral registrar and got a letter confirming he was on the electoral role , which the credit agency accepted.

They did say if i had proof of being on the electoral role into branch they would try and reverse the decision. I took that document into branch and the chap said, are you sure you were told it was rejected as he had been told the application was cancelled
