Flight Overbooked - No reply from Wizz Air

  • Wizz Air have finally got back to me and offered me 250 EUR (their broken english doesnt state if this is for each of the two passengers of not).
This is despite me emailing them a signed form we got from Wizz air at the airport saying we would get 400 EUR each.

And no refund for either either the Wizz air flight we were denied boarding or the subsequent easyjet flight we had to book to go on our holiday.

This wouldn't even cover the cost of the original flight, let alone the compensation or additional £100 we spent parking and driving to a different airport!

Flight Distance is 1250 km so €250 for each passenger obviously claim for your unused tickets or the cost of the replacement tickets but not both
  • yep. I now know that for that distance it is €250. However, we made decisions at the airport to book new flights and parking based on them saying and signing a form for €400.

Surely they have to stand by that now?

    I'm afraid i wouldn't hold my breath.
  • So its now 5 months from the date of the flight and we have still not received a refund or compensation.
In total I've had a few short, unhelpful emails from Wizzair and no reply to my last email which was 4 weeks ago.

They have £500 of my money for a flight they cancelled on us. How are they allowed to get away with this!?

They are hoping you'll go away. They get away with because some people do. The alternative is going to court.

Perhaps this might be an instance where contacting the CAA might be just worth the paper and postage cost.
Whizz air have blatantly flouted 2 of the regulations in that they have not refunded you or provided compensation under reg 261/2004.
It would appear to be a slam dunk case and the flight departed from the UK so comes under CAA responsibility. Ask the CAA how you can enforce action for recovery if the airline don't have a UK presence?
If they can't then ask them what is the point of statute law and their regulatory obligationif there is no way of enforcing it.
