  • Had our heating on 2 hours morning about 6 am and evening 2 hours 6 pm. We like a comfortable 19 degrees and this keeps us warm all day so far. Blankets are ok instead but I can't think clearly when cold.
  • Heating on 1.5 hours in morning and 4 hours of an evening. Will sometimes put on cardigan and socks when it gets a bit chilly in the evenings

I will fire it up if im cold and turn it off if im not cold - i have always used the hall thermostat as an on/off switch and i have the boiler set to a fairly low temperature, about 30% as this keeps the radiators warm rather than baking.

I live in a new build top floor flat so most of my heating needs are paid for by my neighbours on the lower floors of the block rather than by me

Only when it got cold did I appreciate how wonderful my old flat was. It was a newly-built, middle-floor flat with B efficiency, and I almost didn't have to put on the heater for the whole winter... I thought all new flats would be like it, so went for one with huge windows throughout bedroom and living room. Now sometimes my flat is colder than outside too.

Well, that said, the view through the windows is worth it though.

I can remember in the 50's 60's and 70's being cold in the morning having to get up for work before the fire was lit, no central heating and being ***** cold !!

I remember having to wake up early in the morning so I can go downstairs to start the coal fire - no coal fire meant no heating and hot water! How times change! :)
