LOL - ok, translation for the artistic...
Your best mate Harry asks you for a £200 loan until next month. He's a bit short of dosh because he's lent his good mates Grouch, Harpo, and Chico £100 each, but they're going to pay him back in a couple of weeks.
Option 1 - you know that Groucho, Harpo, and Chico are upstanding blokes so you lend Harry the £200.
Option 2 - you don't know who Groucho, Harpo, and Chico are - what do you do..?
At least 3 marx for the correct answer...

This is the way I see it, the majority of people are misinterpreting their situation or being led by the media scaremongering but Northern Rock is essentially strong enough to ride it out, I'm just a bit iffy about how much panic the media can cause and could it actually topple Northern Rock? My gut instinct tells me they are too strong, but Charlie on my shoulder tells me that blind panic can be a killer.
Hi Ben  Long time no speak.
I would listen to Charlie if I was you! Scaremongering is the pastime of the weekend papers, with little other news to print - even Foot & Mouth will go onto the far inside pages compared with this story.
Unfortunately I believe Northern Rock maybe the first to come clean on this sorry mess but it certainly won't be the last. Cash is King. The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -

AFAIAA most of the online only accounts can only be accessed online, you cannot do any business with your online account in a branch.0 -
I'm still deliberating wether to gamble some money on this...
Anyway, can someone explain to me why some people in the City are saying that it's not a big problem but the same City people are selling shares by the 'bucket load'?0 -
Well one fund manager thinks selling makes more sense than buying more:

However even the best fund managers can get it wrong:

Personally I am more tempted by RBS (that's not advice though!) although I haven't bought any yet. I think things could get worse before they get any better."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

Putting 750 quid into pretty much any share is a waste of time really !!!..I learned a long time ago that it has to be a few grand at least really..Unless your going for highly speculative stock..i.e. penny shares, in which case you either double or treble or even more...or loose the lot !!!0

Today was a PR disaster for NR. Confidence is now lower than Jim Davidson's morals
BBC Radio 2 had an interesting phone call where panicing customers were stressing about 'all' their life savings being tied up in NR and the website went down + customer helplines were jammed. Think of the extra reduced liquidity of 25% customers completely withdrawing their savings in just a few days 'If you're not greedy you will go far, you will live in happiness too... like the oompa.... loompa.... doompity do.' (Ooompa Loompas) :beer:0 -

More than covered by the backing they are getting from the BOE, which of course is the Government and Hence the peoples money, so ironically the people who are pulling cash out are also contributing via the BOE cash to NR's survival!:D0 -

a) some people in the city couldn't find their !!!!! with a map
b) some people in the city make loadsadosh from the "little people"
c) both of the above0
