Northern Rock - Shares [Merged Threads]

I'm very disappointed that the Bank of England have chosen to pump 4.4 Billion into the banking system on top of the 17.6 Billion designated for next month. This is an inflationary move and is asking for trouble. Gordon Brown won't care though. He is happy to see the credit and debt flow if it keeps his ersatz-economy ticking over.0

Apparently NR is now fairly priced says analysts who have evaluated the drop in profits given the changing economy.

I suspect the next thing the director now needs to do is perhaps a rebranding excercise, droping the rock. Either that or merge their way out of trouble.
An end to banks issuing high risk loans under there main brand? I hope so.0 -
I've got no shares in anything, hence no sharedealing account.
I've tried a couple of places and they say minimum 3 working days
Let's say I only want to buy £250, but obviously want to do it today, can anyone recommend? And please feel free to PM me if it's not allowed to recommend things "publicly".
Thanks!0 -
Until the end of this year the Motley Fool Sharebuilder a.k.a. Halifax Sharebuilder is doing commission-free purchases so it would cost you Stamp Duty only (0.5%) on your £100 investment. These sharebuilder schemes invest on a fixed day each week. Have a look at the Motley Fool one here http://www.fool.co.uk/share-dealing/share-dealing.aspx?source=ishshdban00500080

The quickest/cheapest way of buying shares in a company would be to open an account with an online broker - this can be done pretty quickly.
For instance, you can join Selftrade online in less than 10 minutes and trade immediately - funding your account via a debit card. They also have no inactivity or annual fees with their standard dealing account - which is something some brokers charge but what you would want to avoid if not trading frequently.
They also have a referral scheme where you could get up to £80 (my details are in post 242 in that thread) for joining them - which means if you are only making one trade, you would make money there as well!
However:
- the referral scheme only kicks in if you are purchasing a minimum of £500 of shares
- Selftrade charge £12.50/trade which means that only planning to invest £250 is not very economic - as you would be looking at £25 to buy and sell your shares.. so they would have to go up 10% before you break even, let alone profit..

Everyone must be buying at the moment - it took me AGES to get through on phones, and the Shareview website kept crashing and took me something like 30 refreshes before I could buy (and annoyingly it kept telling me I'd had too many quotes and had to wait 30 seconds, even though all I got was a "sorry, we're experiencing problems" type message.)
In the end, I got £500 - went in with a friend with £250 each, which is about what spare cash we both had, and are now crapping ourselves as this is the first share dabblings for both of us!
Someone tell me I'm not the only one on this forum to buy today?! (I got them at 302p)0 -

Assuming Shareview will hold the shares electronically, you would need to transfer the shares to Selftrade - Shareview would probably charge you for this but Selftrade refund that cost (in addition to the referral offer)

It's public knowledge that the BOE support was not enough to stop the GBP panicking, so HMG have guaranteed NR deposits and still people are queueing.
Like I said Yant1, NR will not be allowed to go under - there is too much at stake and public reaction has shown how these things can be blown completely out of proportion.), and their ability to get themselves in a flap.
A fella I know is a motor mechanic who goes around in a truck and fixes people's car's at their premises. He's used to dealing with all sorts of people and he's been doing it for nearly 30 years. Anyway, during the recent rash of dodgy petrol from Tesco he was phoned by a regular customer of his, (such people DO exist I'm assured), and asked if he could come and have a look at his vehicle. He'd filled up at Tesco's and his car had been running 'funny' ever since. He'd contacted his solicitor to issue proceedings but he'd been told it would be a good idea to have a mechanic look at the vehicle first.
However, this didn't take long.... his car ran on diesel0
