I`m glad I didn`t empty my account. Safe as the bank of England now and also bought shares yesterday afternoon. The news yesterday evening should raise the share price pre-market this morning
7.00 am 70 + queing in london branch ( started queing at 1.30am  ) saying dont trust government promises, nil queing in newcastle branch obv locals hoping their native bank will be saved0 -
While the queues are there the share price will keep falling.
Hardly anyone believes the government anyway.
One woman on the TV this morning standing outside a NR branch had flew over from Spain to get her cash and there were others from France.
Next thing you`re going to see are people queuing outside A&L and Brad & Bing.0 -
It would need to move up by 25% just to cover the share dealing cost, dont be silly!
NOt if you make the trade via a spread betting company. Don't think id risk the potential leveraged loss though! Think ill wait until they go to £2 then wait and see in a few years like someone else said!0 -
News just in from one of my friends -
As for the someone making the statement "NRK wont be allowed to fail". I find this laughable tbh, they will be backed but only up to a point and only by hard assets, BOE aint stupid.
Cheap comment looks a little bit silly now Yant1, doesn't it ?
If Northern Rock go insolvent there will be a rush on the whole banking system - the last thing that HMG and BOE want or indeed that any of us wants. All banking shares were hit to some degree by the NR problems. A meltdown of the banking system would launch us into a recession.PLEASE DO NOT STEAL
The Government will not tolerate competition

My husband today asked me to find out about Northern Rock Shares. We have £100 extra left and he was thinking if it was worth investing it into NR Shares. If we make we make, if we lose, then ok we lose £100 but its not the end of the world.
Im not sure how we go about finding out how much each share would cost at this moment in time or how to purchase shares. Do you think its a daft idea?0 -
anybody get the returns this mornign up al up 25% nrk up 10%
this is a rocky road0 -
Thanks for that Al Mac, Im not quite sure if i understand it though.0

yes, that's the way I understood it, I've opened a Sainsbury account, 6.25% gross, but have to wait for activation, so cash is sitting in Abbey current account just now making virtually nothing.
You don't have to wait for activation before you can put money in and start earning interest.0 -

If you do research into the actual guarentee and not the spin you will find that the BOE will only ever back up to the assets0 -
we are thinking of buying and leaving them, maybe as a means of extra cash if it makes any. what would be a realistic amount to invest? if you dont mind me askin
At the moment you can buy them for 311.00 am i correct in thinking £3.11 a share?0
