If the OP is going to sit in the right lane without signalling right - and with the left lane clear, he/she is going to frustrate/annoy loads of people - many of whom will want to exceed the speed limit.

He/she can avoid the tailgating and flashing of headlights by making his/her intentions more clear.

Yep, I'd agree with that. And if he'd found himself moving over a little early for some reason then indicating early for the turn - certainly as the guy behind starts to look impatient - could go a long way to smoothing things over.

But that's the sort of thing that you learn by experience & can easily be missed by someone with "a few weeks" with a full licence.

    :T

I didn't need to indicate at that point.

All rightee - no indicating then - if you continue driving like that you will soon possibly be involved in something more serious that someone flashing their lights at you.

It has nothing to do with you if people wish to exceed the speed limit. (I generally don't by the way - certainly not in 30 or 40 limits)

But if you are convinced you are right in the way you turn right on a DC then you had better get used to flashing lights, horns, and tail-gaiting.

Note - I am not approving of any of those reactions - but they are caused by you - the person with only a few weeks experience.

Well there are a lot of impatient drivers about and I've found a good way to avoid them is to keep out of their way. [preferably in the left lane until quite close to the right turn]

Sorry but I disagree with you. As I said, I was in the right lane for a very short period of time, I indicated shortly after to let him know of my intentions however he decided it was more appropriate to speed around me. Are you telling me this kind of behaviour is the norm towards anyone that dares to enter the right lane to....god forbid....turn right
  • Having looked briefly at all the posts, all I can say is "It hasn't changed anybody's life so why not just move on". So what if an impatient driver flashed his lights (regardless of who was 'right' and who was 'wrong').

And don't forget the undertaking, that's usually a good indication you are travelling slower than the prevailing speed of the vehicles around you.

I'm afraid so - don't forget that I did say I don't condone it - but that is what you are going to find.

Note also that I reworded my comment on "If I had been in your position .......

Indicate to change lane - a very short pause and then back on with the indicator.

Driving along in the right hand lane without indicating even for a hundred metres or so will create a reaction such as you received.

Are you saying I should be speeding too?

If it's the norm for drivers to speed in the right hand lane it would make it difficult to move over from the left just before my turn. I prefer not to take the risk.

I feel that is what I did but thank you for the advice. I've taken it on board.

OP, out of interest would you post a google maps link to this particular stretch of road, in particular the point at which you pulled into the outside lane?
