Removing Artex

A cheap way to remove artex is the following:
Score the artex with either a sharp knife or a screwdriver.
Get a bucket of soapy water (cold water and cheap washing up liquid work)
Soak the wall with the water and wait about 15-20 minutes.
Scrape off with a wallpaper scraper.
Works a treat!

always best on the safe side if asbestos might be involved. might be a cheap option in the short term, but how much do you save vs the long term?
get it checked. cough up a few quid rather than coughing up a life.0 -

The problem is many people used artex to cover walls because they were ..........................................................:eek:0 -
does this apply to the lovely patterned artex on my ceiling?0

Try doing that on a Ceiling!, Best way is just simply plaster over the artex, as long as this dosent encroach over the skirting board.
Trouble is that when you get an estimate from a plasterer you will probably need to be sitting down if you havent had an estimate lately, they know its not an easy DIY job, and charge accordingly0 -
I thought it was recommended to skim over artex rather than remove it??:A Goddess :A0

trouble is with plasterers is not so much the cost but actually getting them to turn up!0

Any artex applied before 2000 should be checked before removal
In reality only Artex / Textured Paint from the Late 80s or before should have any chance of containing Asbestos, but Insurance companies request tests on Artex Pre 2000 or of date unknown.
The risk is very low, but start hacking it about and creating dust thats where the problems start, so as long as the artex is intact, yes you can skim over it no problem, if its starting to flake or is damaged get it removed properly. Dont take a chance with your/familys future health by hacking and scraping if the age of it is unknownOver 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
You can also use a steamer to get it off.
Or you can buy some stuff to easy skim over it from DIY shops0
