How do you make a long car commute nicer?

Just wondered if anyone has any tips and tricks to make a long car commute a little nicer?

Things I'm thinking of are:

Good music, heated seats in winter, hands free calling?

What do others do to make their commute a little more comfortable/nicer/etc?

    BBC Radio 4.

I always listen to R4 in the car. My normal commute is only 8 minutes (5 miles) though.

R4 is my preferred choice. But when we do long trips with the kids we usually borrow a few audio books on CD from the library, these keep the kids - and us - entertained for hours. Must admit, I'd never heard of Artemis Fowl before my kids chose one of those stories, but they're great :-)

2 or 3 beers always help when driving a long way, oh and set the cruise control at 90mph.

I always listen to Radio Merseyside, but i don't suppose that's much help to you unless you live here.

BBC iPlayer Radio app - download what you like and listen to it while you drive.
  • Radio 4, though I have to find another station if they get John Humphries to interview a scientist, else I end up announcing to the otherwise empty car "You're asking the wrong questions!" :rotfl:

Isn't it funny that everyone is listening to the Bbc, and yet whenever we've had a thread on here discussing licence fees, loads of people begrudge paying for them.

    Audiobooks.

Multiblock so several gadgets can be run/charged off one cigarette lighter (helps keep the teens happier).

Planned rewards at various points - stopping to get a coffee, take a photo, picking up shopping so you aren't forever driving but hopping from point to point.

Knowing where along & just off your route the loos are. After an hour stop-start traffic, my bladder has a hate-hate relationship with the seatbelt.
