You don't hear that from me very often, but it's worth saying.
I was convinced that I'd never get married. Once I met the OH, it was lovely, not plain sailing at all (nobody ever said life had to be easy), but I was still sure that he wouldn't ever ask - and I wasn't about to; why risk ruining everything by rejection? Well, I'm over 40, carry far more weight than I used to, have health problems, a lousy job and I wouldn't call myself a catch outside a Herman Melville novel.
Well, a few weeks ago, after an awful day at work, he asked me to marry him. And I said yes.
Turns out, as told to me by our mate who is going to be his Best Man, that he'd been asking him for his opinions for ages beforehand (Best Man married young, divorced young and remarried a few years back). And two other guys, as well as the BM have said they 'knew' he would within a year of us starting dating. I had absolutely noidea this was coming. But I was wrong.
So we're getting married next Halloween!:eek::eek:
Just don't expect me to start looking at Wedding Magazines or Fairs. They're terrifying.

I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Congratulations!
I've painstakingly explained on many occasions that I can never see myself giving the shiniest of sh1t3s about whether or not bridesmaid dresses match tablecloths, napkins or flowers, so I fear, if my day does come, it'll be a bit of a freestyle affair. But, I'll be happy.
Enjoy every bridezilla-free moment

Congratulations!
I'm another who was hardly in my youth when I married. I was 39 and we've been married 10 years now and parents to a 6 year old. I've never asked my husband whether he thought about it before he proposed or if it was as "spur of the minute" as it seemed. We were talking with friends about their holiday in the States when one of them proposed a group holiday to Las Vegas. I suggested they renewed their vows whilst we were there and then my (now) husband got off his chair, knelt in front of me and asked me to marry him. We got married in Las Vegas 8 months later :T
Wedding planning for me amounted to about an hour of looking at chapels on the web and then 15 minutes booking it as I chose options from drop down menus - flowers, photography, video and (of course) Elvis officiating

Congratulations from me too. :T
Don't worry about magazines or fairs - just do what suits you both.
That's from someone who's been married twice, both at the Register Office.
I've never had a 'proper' wedding dress (and never wanted one).
Second time around we told very few people and I think there was only about 15 of us.0 -
Many congratulations to you both, I love reading news like this.Wishing you all the best xTreat other's how you like to be treated.

We could start an anti-wedding thread over on the Weddings board ... Not sure if ours will be 2017 or 2018 but we'll get there eventually. MSE style, of course.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Yay, congratulations.
Gitdog is excited. Can he be a page dog??? Ring bearer??? Somewhat over-excited usher??? He'll even wear a hat.
Eta - he even has a skull bandana for that Halloween theme. Although he does keep trying to eat it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Lordy!
Now that would be a special wedding. :rotfl:
I can already imagine Gitdog's guide to disrupting the wedding service, scoffing the wedding cake when nobody's looking (Who? Me? I don't like cake!
) and other adventures. 0
