2 mackerel fillets, half a tub of full fat cream cheese (I use Philly), half a tub of ricotta, zest and juice of half a lemon, big whack of black pepper. Blend.
Dead easy, and fab with onion chutney and toast.0 -

the use by is a guide for the people out there who dont realise that foodstuffs dont last forever! I would think that a vacuum packed bag of smoked fish (and smoking is a preservative which was used to store food over long sea voyages and to last throughout winter months) would last at least a few weeks beyond its useby! open it and look critically at it - does it LOOK ok? smell it - it should still smell strong, but not in any way mouldy or fusty. Taste it - a small piece - does it taste 'right' or 'tangy' or 'cheesy'! if it passes all three tests go ahead and use it - its absolutely fine!0

I found a fair bit of rice in the cupboard that was best before late Jan this year  I don't want to waste it, is it ok to use? its whole grain rice.
Thanks0 -
Yep, it'll be just fine.
So confident am I of this assertion, that I promise to come round and clear up the sick, in the unlikely event that you are unwell after eating it.0 -
