Thanks all for your replies. I have washed the ok chicken in white vinegar and it is cooking as I type. I have had a closer look and sniff of the slimy chicken and yes, the slime is in dots over the surface, plus on closer sniff there is a slightly sickly smell about it. I had assumed bad meat would smell really strongly rank.
No phone numbers available for Aldi stores so trying now to find my receipt. Got it so will return it. Thanks all for your help.0 -
I would do the look/smell/taste tests and use it if it passed all 3 - but if you are feeding very young kids, elderly or sick people then it is probably safest not to risk it.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Even without a receipt they will probably still give you your money back - they can see the date, and they can see it is from Aldi.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Personally I've eaten slimy chicken and been fine, it came to me cold in a Vac-seal bag from a market stall and was slimy when I opened it and sorted the breasts/fillets out for freezing. I thought it a bit odd, but just gave it all a good wash under the cold tap to get rid of the slimyness as it smelt fine. Aside from the slimy texture it was the right colour/smell and a good rinse solved the slime problem.
I've eaten it in several meals since then and had no problems, but if you're not sure, don't risk it and try for a refund. Few things are as nasty as eating bad chicken ~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
I agree with the above. TBH I've probably used many things from my store cupboard over the years that have been OOD. It wouldn't occur to me to look unless it had literally been there for years, or looked like it was off. Years ago people just used their eyes and noses.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. I would use it too.
I don't do 'use by dates' on sealed packages.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
Hi haven't had a chance to read all posts but I had a pack of chicken pieces once before from Aldi that definitely didn't look or smell fresh. I wrapped it up and took it back there. They were apologetic and said not had a problem with rest of batch. To be fair I haven't had a problem with their meat before or since. They refunded my money AND gave me another packet - I was a bit reluctant to try another lot but second pack was fine.
I have to say I am wary about leaving raw meat sitting about in my fridge as I've had problems with other shops too. Nowdays I tend to buy and cook on same day or defrost from freezer as required.

the oils in coconut can go rancid so i would taste it, if it tastes ok it will be fine, but if it has an odd taste i would chuck it as it would make whatever you cook with it taste odd'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

I remember on TV there was a programme that did a test on one of those 'Vesta' branded dry ready meals that you add water to. One that was in date and one years out, they both were fine to eat xD0

If, as I am certain it will be, a sniff and taste test is OK, I'd use it.
2 boxes. 4 x 50g sachets each. That's going to be an awful lot of Korma curries! You can freeze them, though. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
