Oh dear what a shame
Slow cookers cook at much lower temperatures than you would in an oven so as you say it probably became a breeding ground for all sorts of nasties _pale_0 -
Sorry but I wouldn't risk it either......:(
How old is DS?
If "old enough to know better", time for a "chat" about not touching things without checking first, wasting food etc.
If younger than that, a gentle chat about not touching anything in the kitchen.
However, at least he's told you he's done it ....... _pale_Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I suppose he unplugged it to plug something else in. I have put a sticker on my slow cooker plug with SLOW COOKER DO NOT UNPLUG written on it for just that reason.
Shame about the chicken though!0 -
I would cover it with foil and bung in a 200c oven for 45mins to will kill any nasties.
My FIL leave food out of the fridge all night winter/summer and just reheats it this way the next day, and he's 82 and never been ill off of it.
Fridges are relatively new inventions compared to mankind, and food was often cooked and kept for days with just a good reheat before eating.0 -
Thanks everyone! This is pretty much as I thought - I have been banging on about electric bills and leaving stuff on at night on standby - think I might have done too good a job!
Typical all my good preaching backfired on me - he is really apologetic!0 -
I'd bin it. It's lost money & a meal but better safe than sorry.
I had severe food poisoning on holiday a few years back, to the point where 3 out of 4 in the family had to have hospital treatment, & I wouldn't wish the pain etc on my worst enemy.0 -
I'd eat it... but nuke the bejeezus out of it first.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Even if you were to heat it really well at this point yes it would probably kill the bugs themselves, but it would do nothing about the high levels of toxins that they will have already generated & those are what will cause the damage.
Leaving something out at room temp overnight is very different to leaving it partially cooked in a slow cooker which will itself take some time to cool right down & will also remain moist with the steam thus providing the elevated temp/moisture levels required for the bugs to breed prolifically _pale_0
