I'm buying a foot pump this week. I had to add 7psi to a tyre this week using one of these, which was about 70 plunges....hard work. Leg muscles are much stronger than arm muscles.
I had a spate of doing a van tyre to north of 50psi with one. MUCH easier than a footpump. I hate footpumps. If you're using primarily your arm muscles for a track pump, you're doing it wrong... Use your core.

Cheers for the tip. I must be doing it wrong. I'll give it another go and save the purchase of a foot pump.

You'd be mad to use a compressor pump to check tyre pressures, you'll be very lucky if it's anywhere near accurate, use a manual gauge instead which will not only cost you nothing it'll mean that your tyres won't wear faster than they should.

I noticed one of my Mum's tyres was very low so grabbed the track pump thinking I'd hopefully be able to get some air into it but managed to inflate it all the way without too much trouble. I've only used a foot pump a couple of times but I found it much harder to get it up to full pressure with a foot pump.

When I was in Tescos, I noticed my car had a flat tyre, but was put off by the charge, as well.

so, as it was only flat at the bottom of the wheel, I'm going to leave it until it is flat all the way around, so I will get my 50p worth, on the next weeks shopping trip.

    PROPER Moneysaving, that is!!

As I check 3 vehicles each week that equates to an additional £47 per annum

So I have informed them that I will obtain these services from a retailer who has a more realistic approach to ensuring car safety, along with all my families fuel purchases, which amount to over £6,000 per annum - they may not notice the drop in takings, but I will...
You can check the pressures with a pressure gauge. No need for a compressor. Buy a foot or electric pump if you don't want to pay. At least with a pressure gauge and your own pump you can check the pressures at home with cold tyres.

    20p x 3 x 52 = £31.20 per annum. Your own pump would be cheaper.
  • Or buy a small electric compressor from a pound shop at less than a tenner.
If it was from a pound shop it would be nine pounds less than a tenner :D

I tried getting a trailer tyre up to 65psi with a foot pump once, gave up at about 40psi and went to buy a compressor. Best £30 I've ever spent (and conviently still cheaper than using a petrol station regularly).
