I do voluntry work for the nhs mental health trust( i too suffer with depression and find this helps), i drive patients to and from appointments, daycenter's etc, i see a lot that look very well presented, have immaculate houses etc not just women but men too, a mixture of age's. We also take a lot of patients with escorts(cpn's or ward staff, sometimes relative's) to the post office to pay their bills, as without the help they wouldn't pay them, not because they don't want to, but because they can't deal with that side of things.

    hope that makes sense

Wow....have just finished reading this thread - it's taken me about 4 days (on & off) and I'm speechless.

MumOfTwins - your bravery, courage, strength and kindness know no bounds. You are definitely a rare woman. You should take heart from knowing that despite everything you've gone through & suffered, you have not only got this far, but you have inspired many to lend you their support. You have also managed to raise such intelligent, well-rounded children, in the midst of all this happening. Good for you. You are an inspiration to many.

Tony - you offer this lady everything you possibly can, from laughter & love to support & encouragement. You also are a rare man and it is wonderful to know that MoT has such a person with her.

Felicity & Adam - you are 2 of the kindest, most well-rounded children I've read about and it is amazing that you are only 11. When I think of some of the 11 year olds that I know, you cast them all into a very dark shadow.

Unfortunately I have nothing of worth to add to this thread but wanted to wish you all the very best and am thinking of you. Here's hoping that the hearing will go completely in your favour and that before very long you have somewhere comfortable, secure & large enough for you all to have separate beds!

I cannot believe what you have been through and the sheer incompetence of some of the people in those systems that are designed to assist. Absolutely incredible.

Will continue to look in and see how you're doing - also think I may write to your Daniel Zammit to keep up the pressure. :)

QED - Thank you Donna this is extremely helpful. This is exactly the experience of myself and, I think, MOT, and as you have reated, countless other people. It might be very helpful to MOT's case if someone somewhere can source and retrieve an academic or clinical research report that describes this type of "side effect" or "symptom" (I have to say I have been googling about what has been happening to me for the last 3 months and this particular topic has never come up in the literature). Or perhaps MOT's psychiatrist can be called upon to expand their report to address this issue as it is clearly becoming fundamental to the case.

    Best wishes Wol2

Sorry guys - on a clarification point - there are actually two issues here -
    a) appearing outwardly able to cope/dress oneself/present well/look after dependents and not neglect them etc in the eyes of other people and
    b) ability to deal with those day to day financial transactions and other administrative chores - this is what I haven't seen mentioned in the literature

    Ahem - yet another clarification:

    a) So sorry MOT I meant the psychologist report

Have done a teeny bit of research but don;t have subscriptions to access full articles - perhaps someone else (at University of NHS) might be able to trawl through a few publications databases to see if there is anything? Most refer to debt leading to depression - no good - - what is needed is mental distress syptoms directly leading to debt as a result.

  • I am normally a lurker, not just in this forum, but on quite a few, and it is quite rare that I am moved to post. But by golly I have been now.

I have never on any other forum, including other support forums, seen the compassion, the friendship, the concern, the positivity and the constructive criticism which I have seen here.

The advice has been spectacular and the bonds which have been created will last a lifetime I am sure.

While reading this, I have also been sharing a whole range emotions from despair to extreme joy.

MOT you are a very special lady, and your strength and resolve is amazing, but that is only part of it. I-T, your love of MOT and DD and DS shines through, cutting through all the gloom caused by a few heartless jobswoths.

Fellow members, what can I say? I applaud you all for the way you have helped and
supported MOT, DD, DS and I-T. Your generosity of spirit gives me faith in Human nature.

MOT, I would carry a recording of Montserrat Caballe singing for when it is all over and you have won.
Mark Twain "Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching, and live like its heaven on earth"

    Aaah, if only.

MoT, high scoring win on Friday night (sorry I-T!) but Sale played appallingly and only won because the Italian team were worn out from playing really well at the start.

There've been some really helpful posts over the last few days.....I wondered if it would dry up a little and just leave the stalwarts, but no, I've seen lots of new names.

SF, have you decided on your outfit yet?
MoT, have you analysed your wardrobe for a suitable costume ?! :D

    Love & hugs to all

    Hi everyone,

And a big 'hello' to all the new posters! Thank you for your messages and words of advice and support.

My horoscope for this week from Jonathon Cainer in the Weekend mag from the Daily Mail yesterday says:

"Why must life be difficult? Why can't we all just sail on smoothly through the ocean of experience? You may as well ask why we have to have rain or why it can't always be day and never night? Without a down how will we appreciate an up? Without a challenge why would we bother to bring about a change? Without a doubt how would we appreciate certainty? You have been through a lot lately and still have more ground to cover but already you are starting to see how valuable your experiences have been. Events this week will bring reassurance. 2008 has only just begun and some wonderful surprises are in store for you".

    Hi Floss,

Ummm.........on the subject of my wardrobe, I didn't know how long we would be here in the flat when I was packing to leave the old house so my wardrobe is somewhat 'hit and miss' and consists of a pair of jeans, a pair of black pinstripe trousers, several jumpers suitable for wearing with jeans and a 'posh' top for evening wear!!!!!!!!! Perhaps you could help me out with the decision? I think I may have a plain black v neck sweater in amongst it all?

Or maybe I should do what MissPoppy suggested and go through the bins at the back of Asda??

    Have you decided yet SF?

Its difficult.... I can see even with limitations of the packing you can't look like youre trying to look like you can't cope after all the reports said how well turned out you are.
I think I would stick with plain and black, smart and clean but understated. I guess so long as you don't appear too smart or too 'can't cope' nobody can form wrong opinions of you.
I remember some of the reports speculating that Kate McCann must have killed Madeleine was because she had changed her earrings in those first few weeks when she should have been overcome with worry and unable to think of such things - if people want to see bad in others they will regardless.
Hope you are the only one with such a positive horoscope and nobody on the council has one that says " at last you will get the better of that woman who is causing you so much grief!!" Viv XX
  • Morning all - yup got my wardrobe sorted - a pair of dark grey flannel baggy smart trousers, white shirt and blue tweedy jacket with a ribbon tie. Thought I could almost justify a trip to Primada but tht would not be very DFW would it!!! I plan to leave at about 6.30 am to avoid an traffic build up at London Colney, was going to get the train but it would take between 2 to 3 hours with 3 changes!!!! Bless our transport system!

    Liking your Horoscope!
