Hi MOT, and everybody else!
This must be one of the longest threads in history!! I will admit, again, that I havn't read the entire thread, but have skipped through on a few occassions now and it keeps on playing on my mind.
Did the Council find yuo intentional? If they did, I find this quite ridiculous having read the first few threads ime and again, the reason is this... I have thought about your casse in a quite thick but logical way, and the way i see it is that what happened is this.....
You took on a private rented property when you were working and when the property was affordable for you to live in, at this time the property was therefore suitable for your needs and it would be reasonable to expect that you could reside in it.
After some time, your employment ceased, was this due to a deliberate act or omission on your part? No, it was not, it was due, partly to the acts of others in the workplace and was not your fault, you did not become intentionally unemployed.
As a result of your unemployment, the property became unaffordable, and therefore it was not reasonable to expect you to continue to reside in a property which was unaffordable and for which the HB payments would not render the property affordable.
If the landlord served Notice as a result of rent arrears (ground 8) and the rent arrears accrued NOT as a result of a deliberate act or ommission on your part (ie, the property had become unaffordable due to loss of work) then you are unintentionally homeless.
If the landlord served Notice as he wanted to regain possession of the property in order to sell it and not because you were in breach of your Tenancy conditions then again, this is not asa result of a deliberate act or omission on your part and therefore you are NOT intentionally homeless.
You do have a priority need as you have dependant children.
Your health issues (and I can understand why you are suffering now) should not have even really come into this, as, although you were off work with stress, you did not intentionally lose your job.
I know I am ranting, but I juct cannot believe what a big deal the authorities are making of this, from what appears to me to have been a fairly simple case in the outset, they have overcomplicated this case and have caused a horrendous degree of stress, anxiety and discomfort to you and your children.
I am going to read the whole thread at some point, but I do hope that what I have said makes sense. I sometimes think with an idiot logic, but sometimes things just need breaking down, and just because the people at the council etc work in the jobs they do, they really shouldn't make things over complicated for clients, particularly those who are in genuine housing need.
Best of luck with everything MOT. I don't profess to know all there is to know about housing or the law etc, but i know a fair bit0 -

Met County Councillor friend today on a 'friend' basis and he gave me a lot of advice about the appeal and about what to expect etc, showed me the 'court' room where it will take place and explained who is who so that I feel more comfortable next Thursday.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
I just really hope that in your appeal, somebody, yourself, or perhaps whoever is representing you can break it down into the simple terms that I did. I do work in this field so I know what I am talking about and it just riles me that they have bought into this so much very unneccessary information and put you through so much stress. I would just love to see the case file!!
Feel free to pm me at any time and I am happy to give you any further advice that might help you, or even just plain old moral support. There is so much that I could say!!
The main thing is now though, try not to get too stressed, even if the decision s upheld there are further appeal routes that you can access afterwards too.
