How far would you go?

What is the maximum distance you'd travel to pick up a prize?
I live in Manchester area and I've entered competitions to win £500 shopping centre vouchers for shopping centres in Sheffield (Meadow Hall) and Birmingham (Bullring). The way I see it is it's a day out with a bonus.

That's what I think too, if it's a really decent prize, we've decided we would go as far as Liverpool, (from Dorset), couple of nights in a Premier Inn, city break and a great prize! It's usually an Intu card, or similar, and we would treat ourselves to expensive watches and fritter the rest. It's all planned, should the opportunity ever arise!

If I was to win something like a car I would travel anywhere in the UK to pick it up :D

  • If it's somewhere with an airport, I would definitely consider hopping on the plane for 45 mins or so with some tickets costing under £30 single it could really be worth it. If it's a long day another £50 might be needed for cheap bed and breakfast but if it's a big prize then it's probably worth it, and hopefully good fun too.

I would hook my caravan up and make a holiday out of it, would love a free £500 spending spree.
I do it just for fun and whatever I win is a bonus
  • I tend to stick with my catchment area (then again I don't drive) - perhaps I should broaden my horizons a little!

I'm always dubious that a shopping centre, say in Essex would not pick a winner from, say, Leeds? Mind you if it's picked at random there is every chance!

Funny you should say that. I live in Leeds and a local shopping centre picked one of my Comping friends from Essex as a winner. She didn't want to travel for the prize as was only small so she gave it to me but they don't always check location, they don't always check people have entered properly at all.

About 6 miles is my limit. I live on the Isle of Wight and it means that it would cost me £50-150 just to get a ferry to the mainland so I don't bother with collection prizes at all, unless it's a really big one like a car or a cheque for £10,000 or something in which case I'd happily drive to John O Groats to collect :rotfl:

It depends entirely on what the prize is. If it's a £100 shopping centre giftcard then I don't bother, but if it's upwards of £500 then I'd travel all the way to Liverpool for it (just to pluck a location out of thin air) and make a little break out of it (I'm in Somerset.) I'm more likely to travel for the money or gift voucher wins than, say, an iPhone etc.

  • We went up to Manchester from Gloucestershire for a prize . It was a mascot experience at man city for our daughter so worth the 4 hr drive each way! She loved it and I was in hubbys good book for weeks! I think that would probably be our limit unless it was a big prize though!
2016: mascot experience, 2 books, event tickets x2, walkers goodies, box subscription
