Please ignore the trolls on this thread. The niece has passed the most important subjects - English and Maths - and so it really would be a waste of time to resit the others. She should concentrate on doing the very best she can at the course she is currently enrolled on.

Haven't read all the replies - but my niece is at FE college and is retaking maths and English. Wouldn't bother with any others.

I did Sociology as an evening class years after leaving school because I chose to. She might prefer to do that than redo ones she didn't like or wasn't particularly good at.

Whilst it may become irrelevant if she succeeds in her FE course and achieves level 2/3, if, for whatever reason, she fails it or can't complete it, she'll still only have two decent GCSEs which will greatly reduce her future options. If she can do resits for the ones where she got a lower grade, then I think she should do, just to protect her future in case things go wrong on her FE course.

This is exactly what I was saying, Pennywise.

Things are more likely to go wrong if she tries to spread herself too thinly. Doing a full time course with 2 or 3 evening classes on top is a pretty full programme, particularly for a student from a non supportive family. It definitely wouldn't allow much space for part time or voluntary work, either of which will help her far more than getting grade Cs in RE or History.
  • If she were to fail the course (which is extremely unlikely as colleges bend over backwards to ensure a pass and progression) then, at that point, she may wish to re think her options and that could include taking GCSE's, not necessarily resitting ones which she may have failed due to lack of interest.

Well the reason she didn't get 5 pass marks isn't entirely clear. All we know is that she just about scraped maths and English and that her home life isn't perfect.

She might simply not be very bright, academically, or she might be an intelligent girl who'd do well to get more O level passes at GCSE and then progress to A Levels.

The Aunty hasn't given much detail, except that she's proud of her for having done 'so well'.

    Sigh.....

She doesn't need to get more GCSEs Cs because she's already on a GCSE equivalent course, neither does she need to do A levels if you moves onto a level 3 vocational course.

To get it wrong once can be put down to ignorance, to deliberately get it wrong a second time simply confirms your status as a troll.

I'd be more concerned that he's either got a mother who can't spell, or he's at a college where they resist Maths and English!

He has a mother whose kindle likes to auto correct resit into resist!!!!!
