  • The stuff I have is strange.

Yesterday I gave it another real good shake up in the glass coffee jar it's in.

Then I set to painting the piece I did the day before plus another piece (so i'd have one piece with 2 coats & one with just 1 & then i'd leave them for comparison over time - through the winter maybe).

The first night it went on super gloopy & black.

This time it was quite watery. It coated up black in parts but I don't know if that was just leftovers on the brush bristles. It was certainly more watery than the previous night.

That said, when I spoke to the warehouse manager, he had no idea how old the tub was anyway & it didn't have much left in there. Maybe a new tub would t have that problem.

Yeah yeah I'm overthinking. I'm also just saying too. :)

Since you can get the real stuff at decent price and you can do the fence before it is up.

I think you might as well do them and see how it goes. even consider 2 coats before erection.
Are you doing the neighbors side as well, will they be happy with the finish?

I suspect that an overwinter and a summer if you still don't like the finish you will be able to over coat using something with some color in it.
  • My thought process with the neighbours side is that it's my fence panel which I am paying for so I will paint it the colour I want.

My wife thinks we should either leave it or paint it a colour they like.

I don't want to leave it since I want SOME sort of coating on there, be it sucks back or creosote for protection. I don't want to wait on the maybe that the neighbours may one day get round to it.

Looking at the fence panels at the back that they bought & the panels are the other side which THEIR neighbours bought then it looks like they're not interested in painting any panels & just leave them as is - which I don't want.

Yes I won't see their side, but I want some extra level of protection on there anyway.

I use creocote a fair bit.

It starts off brown but mellows to a pleasant neutral grey.

Not black then (like this coal tar stuff i just sampled) :rotfl:

Funnily, it was only the other week my wife mentioned black panels - wondering what they'd look like.

Got 10ltr black ducksback be interesting what it looks like when we decide where it is going.

We have done one fence/gate in garden shades willow(deal £15 9ltr) and it looks really good.
  • For the ducksback, am i the only one here who reads the Silver Copse colour as Silver Corpse?

Every single time i see it on the shelf that's what i read it as, then i have to double take.
