PCN ticket @ west retail park- Unfair amount

HELP PLEASE!!!!: West Retail Car Park, Southampton. The invoice was given for FAILING TO DISPLAY VALID TICKET. It asks I pay £70 within 28 days or £40 within 14 days. The latter is no longer possible as the ticket is 3 days over from that. I could not find the ticket anywhere. I was at @ apple store at West Quay, Southampton for about 3 hours at the most, majority of it waiting (for my laptop to be looked at). Fair enough to pay for 3 hrs parking and some extra but £40 or 70 feels grossly unfair!!! I would be grateful for sound advise please!

Fairness has nothing to do with it, it is a scam, scammers do not play fair.
Read the stickies and then come back to us with greater detail. Get on to Apple and ask them to have it cancelled. Do not tell anyone who was driving, and be prepared for a certain amount of reading, it is not brain surgery but it is not colouring by numbers either,You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Was this a windscreen ticket or through the post?
If the former, wait for the latter. If the latter, you need to find the PCN so you can appeal within the 28 day appeal window.
What is the name of the private parking company? You may be ale to search their website for your VRN to find the PCN details so you can then appeal AS KEEPER still within the appeal timeframe.
Forget the 40 quid mugs' discount. It is for mugs, and only for mugs. What you want is the 100% MSE discount.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -

Your private PCN is unfair - the same as any other - but you don't need specific help yet.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

THANK YOU people...
I have already asked Apple and the quick answer is NO! The manager said NO, they won't move a finger to help in this kind of situation.
I'd like to read the stickers....but can't find where they are! I may have joined mse ages ago but only now need to use this super valuable resource.
I m the keeper of the car, though not driving, but at the end of the day, I understand the owner of vehicle is responsible?
BRITANNNIA PARKING pcn was stuck on the windscreen..
Its 2 weeks since it happened but im so annoyed about it...I don't even mind paying for the 2.5hrs apple kept me in their store so my laptop was sorted, but even £40 is way too much!!!!!0 -
The Sticky threads are at the top of the Motoring, Parking Tickets forum page. The one where you started this thread.
Since this was a windscreen ticket, you should appeal around day 26 online or day 22 by post using the BPA template in blue you will find in the aforesaid NEWBIES thread.
Copy and paste and send. Do not edit in any way.
Do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving, do not miss the 28 day appeal deadline. Never ever 'phone a parking company.
Read and reread the NEWBIES thread until you understand how this unregulated industry works, and learn how to beat the scammers.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -
I m the keeper of the car, though not necessarily driving, but at the end of the day, I understand the owner of vehicle is responsible.
To find the sticky threads you need to just get back to the front page, where you clicked on 'NEW THREAD'. The parking board first page of threads; it is one click away if you use the 'breadcrumb trail' (in tiny blue writing) at the very top of this page and click on the section called >Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking>PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Brilliant, good detailed replies, I kiss the ground you walk on...Thank you !!!!
I'm glad was so annoyed about the PCN I didn't ring or pay them.
Totally get driver liability.
Totally get sticky threads, NEWBIES! I'm reading & re reading as we speak!!
Partially get windscreen number of days appeal (sorry to be dense about this one!) Should I also count week end days or ONLY week days?
For example the windscreen ticket was issued on 7/9/16, so counting wk ends, day 26 would be 3/10/16.
I guess it probably takes into account wk ends too but I need to be 100% sure.0 -
It is elapsed time, so include Tuesdays and Thursdays, oh, and weekends as well.
The day of the alleged event is day zero. Send the appeal as per the directions on the PCN. If by post, then ONLY from a Post Office, and ONLY first class whilst obtaining a free proof of posting.
If online, take a screenshot or picture/video from a camera.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -
Gracias FruitCake!!! Now completely get everything, up to this point, farewell all, possibly till the 26th day, 3/10/16.
;-) x0 -
Britannia ones can be appealed online and are useless at keeper liability - so hold off a minute, I have a plan.
If you had a windscreen PCN I've had another think about this and in a Britannia case, I would be tempted to do nothing until you get their Notice to Keeper in the post (as long as you are the keeper named on the V5). I appealed a Britannia one for my DD's friend's Mum just the other week and we waited for the NTK first, which was not one capable of keeper liability. Made it easier!
They scurried away and threw in the towel immediately. No 'keeper liability' was probably the winning hand but in that case I had loads to throw at them so they could pick any one of 3 points as a good reason to back off. Britannia are pretty weak at appeal stage IMHO, I've beaten them for friends several times before as well. With Britannia, I'm saying wait for the NTK, THEN appeal later in October.PRIVATE 'PCN'?
