    Considering i was like 1 stride away from the desk & they'd seen me enter & just go standing there in what appeared to be the queue.

    You're probably one of those i saw in the bank the other day. Worker behind the screen is serving someone, finishes serving them & then you go marching up because you're next in line & you see a gap.

    Then you get told to get back in line because that worker is not ready for you, is doing other work, has to go on a break or whatever.

    Where i work, the staff have eyes & they use them. If we're serving someone & there's other people who come in then we acknowledge them - tell them sorry i'm just serving such & such right now, i'll be with you in a minute - & we deal with a lot more people at once than was in Screwfix at that moment in time too.

    But it's ok, i've seen this forum for a while now & i know how it works....

    * person posts thread
    * details story
    * some come & agree but the majority just post up how OP is always wrong.

    and the cycle continues :rotfl:

    You missed out a bit in explaining how the forum works:

    * person posts thread
    * details story
    * some come & agree but the majority just post up how OP is always wrong.
    * OP then explains how they are never wrong and everyone who disagrees with them are wrong!
    :rotfl:

    But seriously why didn't you speak to anyone in the shop?. You could have asked someone in the "queue" if this is the queue for service or tell a member of staff that you want to buy something. I've been in shops before and people who clearly don't know how to place an order have asked for assistance, they didn't just walk out.

    Asking on a forum several hours after you left the shop instead of in the shop at the time isn't very productive.

    You would be surprised at how many people wait with the customers who have already placed their order !

    When the local Screwfix store opened they had a 24v drill on a super offer, on a leaflet that dropped through the door. I went in and it came up at a much higher price. Manager came over looked at the leaflet and gave it at the cheaper price, no quibbles. They also send vouchers with no minimum spend either. Last one was £10 off anything.

    But i do use Toolstation a lot more now. Its cheaper for quite a lot. But as mentioned they do not stock as much as Screwfix.
    Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • My local Toolstation and Screwfix both operate similarly - you either find what you want first online and can order there and then for pickup or just wait in line to place your order. I usually find what I want online and take the stock numbers with me as there are no obvious quick pickup points.

    The differences I've noticed are...
    Screwfix do have a selection of stuff on display but Toolsation don't - just catalogues for finding what you want.
    Screwfix operate just like Argos - you order and then wait away from the till queue for pickup. but with Toolstation the person who takes the order picks it while you wait.

    With both you can get some sort of advice as you order but there is no meet and greet or roving assistance - unlike B&Q where you can hunt down somebody who hasn't a clue and likely won't even know if stocked or where what you want might be.

    I use both depending on pricing (mostly Screwfix win on tools etc but Toolstation for hardware etc.).

    Don't expect to be fawned over at discount outlets - my local Poundland isn't big on CS either.
  • I came across a Toolstation catalogue recently. We don't have one locally so i'd be ordering online for home delivery but their prices seemed decent enough.

    Am I the only one to find that ironic, given the company names? :D
  • Started using Screwfix a few years ago but changed to Toolstation when Screwfix were often out of stock of the things I wanted. Toolstation seem better at stock control as things are rarely out of stock with them and the prices seem good. On my more recent visits to Screwfix I've found that the service is slow unless you are using the trade section so I've not bothered with them for quite a while.
