    It sounds like you just wasted your time out of principle because someone should have come and spoke to you and asked if your needed help!. If you wanted something you should have just gone up to someone who worked there and bought it.

    Plus I don't really understand why you didn't reserve it online if you went online to find the reference number, this means that you can guarantee they have it in stock.

  • Screwfix is like Argos but for people who think they can build things.

    It's like B&Q, but much cheaper if you don't mind buying a box of 100 rather than a packet of two.

    I've been in most of the local Screwfix branches (so I guess I must think I can build things ;) ) and generally a queue naturally forms at the counter. Some people will buy stuff the "argos" way by filling numbers on a bit of paper, others who have a computer with an internet connection and aren't afraid of online shopping will buy online and just come in to collect (which is much faster).

    Generally you need to make your way to the counter to be served, aside from one store near me where they sometimes have a person greeting you as you come in (not at 7.10am though, I've noticed), all the others if you lurk at the back of the showroom bit you'll be ignored as there are no staff there, they are all behind the counter or in the warehouse.

    So you went in the shop, waited 10 minutes then left without speaking to anyone ? Were you scared or something ? Hardly Screwfix's fault is it ?

    Considering i was like 1 stride away from the desk & they'd seen me enter & just go standing there in what appeared to be the queue.

    You're probably one of those i saw in the bank the other day. Worker behind the screen is serving someone, finishes serving them & then you go marching up because you're next in line & you see a gap.

    Then you get told to get back in line because that worker is not ready for you, is doing other work, has to go on a break or whatever.

    Where i work, the staff have eyes & they use them. If we're serving someone & there's other people who come in then we acknowledge them - tell them sorry i'm just serving such & such right now, i'll be with you in a minute - & we deal with a lot more people at once than was in Screwfix at that moment in time too.

    But it's ok, i've seen this forum for a while now & i know how it works....

    * person posts thread
    * details story
    * some come & agree but the majority just post up how OP is always wrong.

    and the cycle continues :rotfl:

    Click and collect is the way to go. To be honest I buy from Screwfix when Toolstation don't stock it, Screwfix minimum £50 spend for free delivery, Toolstation £10.

    Can you walk around and browse? No, as I said, it's like Argos. You buy from a catalogue/online site and collect, there is no browsing or perusing.
  • Toolstation's queue is much clearer, you stand in line and are served in order. I generally find toolstation cheaper or the same price, but screwfix have a bigger range and the special offers / daily deals can be tremendous value. I have a plumbfix trade account but its not much cheaper. Bit like tradepoint at B&Q, it used to be a lot cheaper but now its not.
